Staff as Learners

On Thursday 15th February, all learning space staff participated in a professional learning day with well-respected literacy consultant, Emina McLean.

Staff learnt about the different theories and models of reading and the research to support each of them. They explored the elements that create successful readers, particularly phonemic awareness and phonics, fluency, vocabulary, oral language and comprehension.

It was affirming for staff to recognise that ARPS is headed in the right direction in improving students' reading. We look forward to our continued work with Emina over the remainder of 2024 to further develop staff expertise to teach and assess reading effectively.
