Learning and Curriculum Primary - Stage 3

English in Stage 3

Immersing students in rich and meaningful learning experiences in English lessons is a key focus for this term in Stage 3. Diving into a diverse range of texts, opportunities to view, respond and create imaginative texts will be the key focus in writing.

Reading for Meaning: Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill that forms the basis of all learning. Our focus will be on developing students’ ability to analyse and interpret texts, identify key ideas and themes, and make connections between texts and their own experiences. Through guided reading activities and discussions, students will deepen their understanding of the texts they encounter.

Grammar and language Skills: A solid understanding of grammar and language mechanics is essential for effective communication. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary development will provide students with the tools they need to express themselves accurately and fluently in both written and spoken form.

Speaking and Listening: Effective communication involves not only writing but also speaking and listening. Students will have opportunities to engage in discussions, presentations, and oral storytelling, developing their speaking and listening skills and learning to communicate effectively in a variety of contexts.

We believe that parental involvement is key to student success. We encourage parents/carers to support their child’s English learning journey by reading together, discussing books, and fostering a love of language and literature at home.
