PCL Reflections
This week sees the commencement of the College’s dedicated Pastoral Care Lesson (PCL) Program that aims to:
- supplement presentations, and extend activities undertaken in the Year Coordinator Meetings
- promote and build a positive sense of self and belonging, and the skills to make positive and healthy choices to support learning and achievement
- provide a safe, respectful, and accepting environment for all students and staff.
Topics being explored in the Senior School include approaches to relationships in preparation for Year 9 Camp in Week 5, goal setting, time management and dealing with stress.

Young Leaders’ Afternoon Tea 2024
Last Thursday afternoon, the SPC Student Leadership Team hosted approximately 50 student leaders from schools around Sydney for our annual Young Leaders’ Afternoon Tea. The afternoon provided a great opportunity for student leaders of the various schools to come together, connect with each other, discuss ideas and initiatives in the works and learn more about what it means to be a leader.
At the beginning of the afternoon, we were all extremely fortunate to hear from Clinical Psychologist and Old Boy, Alex Latouche (’04). Alex is the CEO and founder of ThinkFree Psychology Services, who spoke to us about his interpretation of the College Touchstone for 2024, ‘Liberating Education’. We heard about Alex’s personal schooling experience, the importance of his education beyond school, and the importance of seeking a liberating education in all aspects of life – both inside and outside of leadership. We sincerely thank Alex for taking the time out of his schedule to share his insights with us on the afternoon.
Throughout the rest of the event, we heard from our own College Captain – Michael Sakr - about leadership, participated in various energisers to get to know one another and the various skills a leader should have, and built connections across the different schools over a shared meal.
An expression of gratitude must be extended to all staff and students who were involved in the planning and facilitation of all activities, as well as to Ms Santiago for her continuous support.
