Who We Are

Year 3 Term 1, 2024

Transdisciplinary Theme

'Who we are'

Central Idea

Positive relationships contribute to a harmonious community

As an International Baccalaureate World School, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.

Through the first unit of inquiry for the year, the year three students will be exploring all of the elements that make up a harmonious community. They will explore different kinds of behaviour within their family, their friendship group and their classroom.

They will discuss the impact their behaviour can have on others and create an Essential Agreement for the classroom which outlines the guidelines for successful learning and harmony in the classroom community. This unit ties in beautifully with The Resilience Project and will continue to be referred to throughout the year.

Action

Action in the PYP is initiated independently by the student as a result of the learning process. Action may be bringing a book or artefact related to the inquiry to school, or student initiated drawings/posters/research. We celebrate our students’ ACTION every day in our classrooms.

If you see your children taking independent action at home encourage them to share their action with their class. For this inquiry we will be further developing our understanding of the Learner Profile. Each Friday, the students will reflect on the week and choose a Learner Profile attribute that best fits with their learning for the week. They will display their photo next to the corresponding Learner Profile Attribute on our Action Board.
