Year Three

Dear Year Three Families,

Over the past few weeks, students have been gearing up for their first ever NAPLAN assessments. It was fascinating to witness the growth and maturity displayed by students during the Writing and Reading assessments. They demonstrated exemplary self management skills by being punctual and organised for them. We now eagerly anticipate the upcoming Language Conventions and Numeracy NAPLAN on Friday and in Week 8.

Class Captains

We're delighted to honour our Year Three students who earned the esteemed role of Class Captains at our recent assembly. Their leadership skills and commitment to our school community shine brightly, and we look forward to seeing the positive difference they'll bring this year.

Reading:

During our Reading sessions, students delved deeper into the concept of 'Question, Answer, and Relationship' to enhance their comprehension skills. They concentrated on 'On My Own' questions, leveraging their background knowledge to express their viewpoints on a range of texts. Additionally, students actively participated in NAPLAN test preparations, including engaging with the online demonstration version.

Writing:

In Writing, students continued their exploration of various genres such as Narrative and Persuasive Texts in anticipation of the forthcoming NAPLAN assessments. They engaged in exercises involving picture prompts and scenarios for narrative writing, while also delving into persuasive writing prompts aimed at persuading their audience through effective use of various persuasive techniques.

Mathematics:

In our mathematics classes, students explored a variety of concepts including symmetry, patterns, and features of 3D shapes. Additionally, they maintained their rigorous practise with past NAPLAN tests, collaborating with classmates to solve a range of diverse mathematical problems. Students also engaged in practising the online demonstration test to enhance their familiarity with test conditions and the usage of different online tools.

Inquiry:

During our inquiry sessions, students have demonstrated a deeper understanding of the Central Idea: "Our beliefs shape our identity." They enthusiastically shared cultural artefacts that serve as extensions of their identities, reflecting the influence of their cultural beliefs and values. These artefacts were shared with their peers during 'Show and Tell' sessions. Furthermore, students diligently continued working on their action pieces, aiming to illustrate the impact of our values and beliefs on shaping who we are.

Camp

In preparation for our annual camp from June 17th-19th, 2024, the Year Three families were invited on the 13th of March 2024, via Webex for a Camp Information Night. This night went into details regarding logistics and costings, and allowed families to get further clarifications. We had a wonderful turn out of over 100 families in attendance. Please speak to your classroom teacher if you were unable to attend or have any further questions. The presentation is up on the Year Three Schoolbox page for you to look through at your own time.

Homework

Every alternate Monday our Year Three students have started receiving their homework, which will be due for submission the following Thursday. These tasks will be published as a 'News' post on  Schoolbox class pages. Please encourage your child to show you where these homework tasks are located. Each fortnight there is a reading, writing, numeracy and inquiry task to be completed.

Reminders:

• Initial deposit for camp  due 22nd March. Please pay via Xuno or the office.

• We kindly remind students to wear their wide-brim hats during every recess and lunch throughout Term 1 and 4, and to ensure that they bring a full water bottle daily.

• iPads are essential tools for classroom learning and should be brought to school daily. Please ensure they are fully charged.

• NAPLAN assessments will conclude in Week 8, with the Numeracy test scheduled for March 19th and any additional catch-up sessions occurring throughout the week.

Best Regards,

Year Three Teaching Team
