Wellbeing
This year the students are in two groups for Wellbeing. The Foundation to Year 2 students work together and are known as the Junior Stars, while the Year 3 to 6’s are grouped together and are called the Senior Stars. This new grouping allows for longer Wellbeing sessions, and we have all enjoyed the benefit of more students in the Wellbeing games.
The Senior Stars have enjoyed participating in games and activities promoting making connections between peers. They were challenged to pair up with a new classmate each time the music stopped, and they were given a set of questions to ask their peers. Social norms of attentive listening and asking thoughtful questions were practised and it was fantastic to hear the students’ excitement as they interacted with their peers.
Both the Junior and Senior Stars have been studying emotions. After listening to the story, Smiley Shark the Junior Stars were asked to study a set of emotions and match them to the different parts of the story The students busily worked to complete this task and were happy to explain why they selected the emotion for the picture.
The Senior Stars have unpacked what it means to be ‘socially aware’. We now know that it’s the ‘ability to take the perspective of and empathise with others, including those from diverse backgrounds and cultures.’ I was very impressed with the students’ contributions to these discussions, and I have seen lots of evidence of students showing a high level of social awareness. Well done everyone!
