Principal's Report

by Kristy Herridge

Mid Term 1

I would like to congratulate our students and staff for the excellent way we have started the year. Our learning routines are already being strongly embedded. We are really excited about having our students at school every day working with teachers to achieve a high level of learning progress. To support this, we are also strengthening our connections across our whole Staughton Family, getting to know each other even better, supporting and caring for each other. Our students are capable great things inside and outside the classroom and I look forward to celebrating them with you all throughout the year. It has been my privilege to be acting Principal at the end of 2023 and I can confirm that I will remain Acting Principal of Staughton College for term 1 and 2 this year. I love this place and will also remain here after term 2 in whatever capacity.

This year we have introduced the separate junior and senior break times. Everyone, staff and students, have been fabulous in supporting each other with this significant change. We have had some teething issues but together we have navigated these issues to resolve them quickly.

Welcome Year 7 students and Families

This year we have had our largest year 7 cohort join us. I would like to warmly welcome continuing and new members to our school community. It was fantastic to meet some families at our welcome BBQ earlier this term.

Swimming Sports

I would like to congratulate our whole Staughton Family on an excellent Swimming Carnival on Monday the 26th February. We had terrific numbers in attendance. The swimming carnival is a great way for our whole community to connect and have fun. I particularly enjoyed the staff versus students relay at the end! I would like to congratulate Roger Cini on his careful preparation that makes this event such a success.

Child safe

In response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Reponses to Child Sexual Abuse, all schools are required to implement minimum Child Safety Standards. At Staughton College, we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school. We have fully implemented all of the standards and these documents can be found on our website. I will be regularly reminding our school community of these policies as part of our ongoing commitment to the safety and wellbeing of the children in our care.

We, at Staughton College, would like to show our respect and acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is situated, of elders past and present. We extend a warm welcome to everyone who visits our school.
