Religious Education

Lenten Season

As a Catholic school, all our students are learning and participating in experiences linked to our Lenten Season and beyond, whether it be Mass, liturgies, Sacraments as well as daily lessons in the classroom.

Whilst we welcome the diversity of at least 13 other faiths in our school and share in our students' faith experience, it is our Catholic Identity that we as educators in a Catholic School explicitly teach. The Religious Education Curriculum of the Sale Diocese; To Live in Christ Jesus, allows us to look through several lenses to teach our students. They incorporate: Scripture, Tradition, Christian Prayer and Liturgy and Religion and Society.

During this time of year we have the opportunity to specifically explore Caritas Project Compassion. Students learn about the great work they conduct to assist people around the world. The theme for this year's Project Compassion is 'For all future generations'.  We will have money boxes throughout the school raising funds for this great cause.

caritas.org.au/project-compassion This time of year emphasizes our work around Cathloic Social Teaching and what that can look like.

It's the time of year where we invite our students and their families to donate money if they can, to emphasize one of the key aspects of our Lenten journey - almsgiving. We also focus upon prayer and fasting during this liturgical time, which is a key element similar to many other faiths we talk about in our diverse school community. Dialogue between staff and stud is a key component of religious education and other currilum areas.

I encourage you to promote faith discussion at home. This will be enhanced by the Prayer Boxes that are soon to be distributed to classes for students to use and take home to share with the wider family.
