Do all that you do with love ~

Dear Families,

Congratulations

On Monday we presented the Student Leaders for 2024 with their badges. Those who applied for formal leadership roles did an outstanding job in preparing their speeches and delivering them in front of their peers and members of staff. We are so proud of this group of young people - I know there were a few disappointed children but they should be proud of themselves for the effort they put into their applications.

The Community Spirit leaders have already had their first official duty, they have been trained for flag duties and our flags will now fly proudly from the flag poles each day.

Congratulations to all our grade six students who are our student leaders and a special mention to the following:

Community Spirit Leaders - Abigail, Jerusha, Isabella, Jared, Sokeng and Chieng

Social Justice Leaders - Tino, Rhyle, Advait, Nelleila, Ashwin and Kadiatu

House Leaders for Lisieux - Hiruka and Senolita

House Leaders for Mercy - Will and Tashni

House Leaders for MacKillop - Anthony and Tilly

Developing our school's Strategic Intent

As you know, the school completed its review in 2023 and part of this process requires us to determine our Strategic Intent for the next 4 years.

The strategic intent is a clear direction for schools regarding their improvement goals. It outlines the desired future for students resulting from successful implementation of a strategic plan, answering the question: "Where do we aim to be for our students in four years?"

To assist the school in developing our new Strategic Intent, we are gathering language from key stakeholders in our school - staff, students and parents. I would appreciate it if you could take a few moments to complete the google form linked below.

Child Safety - Crossing the road safely

As many of you are aware, we lost our Crossing Supervisor last year due to cuts made by the council. Complaints were made regarding this on the community's behalf but this was out of our control. Endeavour Drive is extremely busy at school drop off and pick up time and I need to ask that you are mindful of the importance of keeping all of our community members safe.

The speed limit around the school is 40kph, parents have complained that some road users are driving faster than this. When you are crossing the road, or teaching your children road safety, please take time to remember that traffic won't automatically stop if someone is waiting at the old crossing. Pedestrians need to stop and wait for a safe break in the traffic before crossing the road. Please don't encourage children to cross between parked cars - walking a few extra metres to the old crossing is far safer and all pedestrians can be seen by oncoming traffic.

NAPLAN

It is that time of year once again, we have started to prepare our grade 3 and 5 students for the NAPLAN tests. An information sheet is being sent home today for families to read.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.

As students progress through their school years, it is important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy.

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.

Our NAPLAN schedule can be found below. If you have any questions regarding the NAPLAN process, please don't hesitate to make contact with your child's class teacher or Michelle Hinds, our NAPLAN coordinator.

Enjoy the last few days of our official summer - I hope you manage to stay cool!
