Premier's Reading Challenge

Welcome to Week 9 of the Premier’s Reading Challenge

As you know, to be a part of the Premier's Reading Challenge, you need to read 12 books during the 35 week challenge period. 8 of your books should have a PRC label on the spine (Red for Reception-Year 2) (Green for Year 3 – Year 5) (Yellow for Year 6 ) and 4 extra books are free choice.

After you've finished each of your books, you need to add the information onto your PRC form, and when you've filled your form, you need to hand it to your teacher. This has to be handed in by Term 3,  Week 7 -  this date is the 4th of September. There are still 24 weeks to go, so if you haven't started, now is the perfect time.

Don’t wait - The first student to hand a completed form to Alanna in the library office will win a book prize. All certificates and medals will be given to students in November.

First Aid in Schools

On Monday and Tuesday of Week 8 our R-6 students participated in first aid training through St John's Ambulance Service. Our facilitator Helen took each of the classes through the steps of the DRS ABCD acronym, explaining what to do in an emergency, how to call for help and what to say on the phone to the first responders. She then showed each of the students basic bandaging and how to wrap injuries, before giving the children some padding and bandages to have a go on their own. Our older students also received CPR training for both infants and adults.

Harmony Day

Last week classes participated in Harmony Day activities to recognise and celebrate the rich cultural diversity in our community. The students investigated the many cultures both at Modbury Primary School and across the globe, and explored the things which make these different cultures unique and/or similar.

They learnt about the different foods, languages, clothes, customs and beliefs that we see in different cultures, while highlighting the importance of inclusiveness, respect, and belonging.

Listed below are some interesting statistics about Australia's multicultural community. They have been issued by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and can be found on Harmony Day Website. (https://www.harmony.gov.au/about
