Student Leaders 2024

Meaning Making Workshop

Last week our Student Leaders joined 1000 students from across South Australia to participate in an online workshop which was hosted by Professor Martin Westwell, Chief Executive of the Department for Education and Sarah Bradbury, a senior team leader within the Department for Education.

The students worked together to unpack the four impact areas of the new Strategy for Public Education, before deciding on an area which they'd like to explore over the next year. Our Student Leaders chose to focus the area of Wellbeing, and in particular, the sub-category of resilience and persistence.

The Leadership team asked our students what this looked like at Modbury so far, and these are their responses:

Ethan: "Never giving up when things get hard".

Connor: "Bouncing back in times when they are struggling".

Alex: "Working independently".

Aaradhya: "Trying our best".

The students then discussed some of the things they do in classes which support their Wellbeing and Learning. Connor shared that "Welcome circles and greetings help wellbeing to boost confidence and makes us feel excited and confident and ready for the day. Teachers know how you’re feeling and work out what type of activity to set you- if you're tired you don’t want an activity which is hard or tricky".

Our students were then introduced to two of the members on the South Australian Student Representative Council and brainstormed some things they would like to see introduced in schools to support student learning and Wellbeing.

They did a fantastic job representing our school, and we look forward to seeing them further develop their ideas in upcoming workshops.
