S.A.L.T Workshop
Mukinbudin District High School secondary students experienced an amazing career taster day last week! Facilitated by Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen (S.A.L.T), students used power tools like drills, jigsaws, and drop saws to create a wooden toolbox. Many minds were opened to the idea of an apprenticeship/career in the trade industry after students experienced the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands.
Kite Kinetics and Spinning Flowers Workshops
We were so grateful to have Michael Alvares from Kite Kinetics visit MDHS again this week. The students and staff were treated to an explanation of the various kites and Michaels history and kite display, which was very extensive. The whole school participated in Kite making workshops, using old plastic shopping bags. These kites ranged from box kite, Bermuda Hexagon to the Sugar Glider. The students all made the kites from scratch and some got to have a fly of them but it was actually TOO windy for most of them! Michael finished off the day with a spectacular display of his 12 metre Whale Shark kite. Thank you to all of the parent/ volunteer helpers who assisted with each class.
The whole school also got to participate in the Spinning Flowers workshop, also run by Michael. This is a recycling project of Michaels and the flowers are made from drink and water bottles mounted on a fiberglass rod and decorated with acrylic paint. The wind was perfect for watching these spin today!
All of the students have had a fabulous time learning and creating over the past 2 days.
Remembrance Day
Mukinbudin DHS held its Remembrance Day Service last Friday. The ceremony was run respectfully by our Secondary Cadets and was an honorable and moving service. Thank you to the Mukinbudin Community who attended also.
