PALs Mentor Training
On Wednesday the 15th of November, some of the year 5’s from 404, 405, 1407 and 1408 participated in PALS mentor training in the hall with Mrs Howard.
PALS (Play at Lunchtimes) is a structured lunchtime play program for Foundation to year 2 students, led by year 6 students. First, we had a chat about being responsible and how to be a role model for the younger students. We started with some warm-up games which are traffic lights, beans and getting to know you. Then we moved on to chase games which are poison ball, chasey and steal the treasure and we also played with the parachute.
After lunch we had to set up and learn how to play and make changes for six different games, for example, no net netball, king ball, ball dribble, an obstacle course, knock 'em over and target throw. After recess, we had some students from the 13 block come over to the hall so we could play games with them and practice being a PALS mentor.
We learned how to communicate and interact with younger students to help them play safe and fun games. It was a fun day but also a learning time too.
