State Finals - Tennis

A podium finish!

Our Hot Shot Boys/Mixed Tennis Team qualified for the State Final played at the prestigious Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.

Kooyong was once the home of the Australian Open and the history and facilities were absolutely outstanding.

Our team battled hard all day and showed tremendous spirit and camaraderie towards one another.

Losing only 1 match through the pool stage meant they qualified for the finals. In the finals we finished 3rd which is an amazing achievement and the team celebrated loudly on the bus trip back to school.

Here is a quick summary:

Our first match was against Valkstone PS - East Bentleigh. Our teamed battled hard with Lucas and Rohan winning their singles games. The rest of the sets were extremely close but we weren’t able to have any more wins, losing 2 sets to 10. Valkstone PS ended up winning the tournament and were crowned State Champions.

In our second game we played against Sacred Heart - Colac. The team bounced back and confidence was restored with us winning 10 sets to 2. Yarrawonga PS was the last team that we played in our pool, with the top 2 teams advancing to the finals. The team needed to win and win we did. All players won their singles and doubles matches giving us a 12 sets to 0 win.

As we finished 2nd in our pool, we played the winner of Pool A who was Livingstone PS

- South Vermont. The scores were very close in the majority of the games but they were too strong winning 10 sets to 2. This result meant we now played off for 3rd position against St Pauls Grammar – Traralgon.

Our team refocused and galvanized together taking a 6-2 sets lead after the singles matches. All four doubles were extremely tight with all sets going down to the wire. Our boys held their nerve and won 10 sets to 2, thus being crowned 3rd in the STATE.

This team has set the bar extremely high for the 2024 Hot Shot Tennis team but we can’t wait for next year!
