What an incredibly busy, interesting and exciting fortnight St Aidan’s has just enjoyed! Excursions, incursions, Talent Quest auditions, School Leadership speeches and Kinder Orientations to name just some of the learning and excitement that has taken place.
We were thrilled to have so many students audition for our end of year Talent Show. Who knew we had such talented students? We did of course! What was also impressive was the wonderfully supportive audience that attended each day at lunchtime to support and applaud every act. Year Six students were the judges with Miss Katherine Siapkis and they have a difficult task to decide which acts will go through to perform for the whole school community. Regardless of who is in the final performance every student can be proud of their efforts and look forward to many other opportunities to shine.
Here is a small sample of some of the entertaining acts we enjoyed during Week 7 - singing dancing, music and comedy.
The Talent Quest performance will take place on Monday 11 December at 9:00 a.m. It should finish at approximately 10:00 a.m. Parents are very welcome to attend.
On Thursday November 23, Year 2 and Mrs Oborn, Mrs Green, Mrs Kelly and Mr Bouris went to Taronga Zoo to learn about how we can care for animals and the land through the perspective of our First Nations People’s culture. In the Taronga Zoo immersive habitat classroom we enjoyed close encounters with some of our amazing native animals such as a curlew, a potoroo, a python, a turtle and a large green tree frog. The children listened attentively, asked many questions and were thoroughly engaged with the Dreamtime stories they were told.
Year 2 has also been learning important sustainability skills which include reducing, reusing and recycling and choosing grocery products that consider the natural environment and the habitat of animals and sea creatures.
Last Thursday, Year 4 and Year 6 had the unique experience of exploring space through a digital immersive mobile planetarium called the Cosmodome. The students saw the night sky, explored the solar system and even learnt how the Earth's tilt creates seasons.
Term 4 has been a term filled with poetry across the grades - exploring poems, analysing poems and creating poems. Some of our amazing Year 6 students have been reflecting on their Primary School years as their graduation draws near. They have created some thoughtful, moving poems which they would like to share.
I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE 2023
By Clara K Year 6
Do you remember,
Those primary school days?
Would you go back,
And change your old ways?
Listen to the laughter,
Joy is in the air.
LOOK! The children are actually
Playing fair!
The teachers are kind,
As kind as can be.
Oh how much I don’t want to leave 2023
Graduation day is near,
I will have more than one tear.
Friendship, drama, and glee.
Oh how much I loved 2023.
YEAR 6 POEM
By Ainsley & Zoe Year 6
In Kindy,
That’s where we met our friends
The ones that will be with us
All the way ‘till the end
Now in Year 6,
We are all so close together
Boy or girl,
Will it be like this forever?
In Kindy,
We didn’t work that hard,
We just jumped around
And played in the yard
Now Year 6,
Assessments everyday
We wait for the gruelling results
Not everyone will scream “ Yay!”
In Kindy,
Ready to move to Year 1
We didn’t have our helpful buddies
Will it be that fun?
Now in Year 6,
Ready to move on.
Into the future,
Where we now belong.
From little acorns,
Mighty oaks have grown
And I’m proud to say,
This is Year 6.
YEAR 6 THROUGHOUT THE TERM
By Chloe and Tara Year 6
Term 1
It’s the first day of the Term,
Year 6 is ready to learn
We wake up with excitement,
We are ready for our assignments
Term 2
We have lots of sports ,
And we are running on the courts,
“BEEP!” we dive into the pool
Then we take the bus back to school.
Term 3
Our buddies beg us to stay and play
But it’s getting close to the end of the day
They jump, they skip, they do lots of flips
After they eat their salty Smiths chips.
Term 4
We have been preparing for this special day
As we play the day away.
Now that we say “Goodbye”
Let's now welcome the new year 6’s coming to say “Hi!”
Have a wonderful fortnight
Warm regards,
Robyn Green
