As we approach the end of another academic year, it's time to reflect on the achievements, growth, and heartfelt farewells that have defined our international student community. The recent end-of-year celebration was a poignant tribute to the dedication and efforts of our students, marked by a special appreciation for the homestay families who have been the pillars of support.

Commending Student Achievements:

The heart of our celebration was dedicated to applauding the remarkable efforts of our students throughout the year. From conquering academic challenges to embracing new cultural experiences, each student has contributed to the vibrant tapestry of our international community.

Farewelling Study Tour Students:

A special farewell goes out to our study tour students who are returning home. Shengye (Seiyo) Yan, Teina (Tina) Maruyama, Yukino Takeda, and Aoha Ogawa, your presence has enriched our community, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

Transitions in ISP:

We also acknowledge Yisa (Isaac) Chen, an ISP student transferring to new horizons. Your time with us has been valued, and we wish you continued success in your academic journey.

ISP Graduates:

A heartfelt congratulations to our ISP students who are graduating: Yee Ting (Haise) Yip, Xin (Maxine) Chen, Yuqin (Ethan) Xu, and Jinghe (Henry) Zhu. Your academic achievements and contributions to our community will be remembered, and we wish you success in your future endeavours.

Appreciation for Homestay Families:

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to the homestay families who have opened their homes and hearts to our students. Your generosity and warmth have created a supportive environment crucial to the success and well-being of our international learners.

As we bid farewell to 2023, we carry with us the memories of shared experiences, friendships, and achievements. Here's to a bright future for our departing students, gratitude to our homestay families, and appreciation for the exceptional work of our international program staff. We look forward to welcoming new faces and creating more meaningful connections in the coming academic year.

Year 7 German

To celebrate the end of School year and staying within the topic of Unit 4 ‘Die Schule macht Spaß’ students have been invited to create their own Schultüte by decorating it with as many German words as they could think of. The school horn called in German ‘die Schultüte’ is received by German kids upon entering their schooling journey. The traditional Schultüte is packed with a range of goodies and this tradition has been merged with the spirit of giving for Sant Nicolaus day. Each of the students who created a school horn has returned the next day to find treats in it.

Year 8 Chinese

In Term 3, all Year 8 Chinese learners participated in a Chinese Language and Cultural Competition which was a vibrant showcase of talent and dedication. The students' participation and success in this competition, proudly sponsored by the Confucius Institute of QUT, not only highlight their individual talents but also reflect the comprehensive and engaging teaching approach adopted by the language department.

Our commitment to offering a diverse and inclusive curriculum that embraces different cultures has been crucial in nurturing these young talents. The victory at the Chinese Language and Cultural Competition is more than just an academic achievement for these students. It represents a bridge of understanding and respect between cultures, and it highlights the importance of learning languages in today's globalised world. As the school community celebrates this remarkable accomplishment, these young people are already looking forward to future competitions and opportunities to showcase their talents and deepen their cultural insights.

Alumni Success Story: Bridging Cultures from The Gap State High School to Beijing

We are delighted to share the remarkable journey of our former student, Chris Halford, who recently visited to recount his experiences from our classrooms to the heart of international diplomacy.

Chris graduated with a passion for Chinese language and culture, a foundation that has propelled him to a distinguished role at the Australian Embassy in Beijing. His achievements took a spotlight as he accompanied Prime Minister Albanese during his recent visit to China.

During his visit, Chris stressed the importance of understanding not just the language but also the culture. His experiences highlight the potential of language education in building bridges between nations.
