Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 8, Term 4

🌿 READING AND VIEWING

Students are reaching the end of their Literature Circle novels. In addition to reading their books, students are continuing to analyse episodes of 'Little Lunch'. They will choose a character to analyse and create a profile on them in a creative way.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage your child to read independently as often as possible. Watch an episode of 'Little Lunch' together,  discuss the characters and the format of the episode.

🌿 WRITING

Students will use their understanding of the structure of 'Little Lunch' and relatable school yard problems to start creating a script for their own episode.

🪴What you can do at home:

After watching a 'Little Lunch' episode at home, discuss the school yard problem and brainstorm other ideas that could happen during recess at school.

📸 SNAPSHOT: Your child has completed their writing snapshot for Term Four. Look out for your child's creative story writing process keynote and published text. Read and discuss their snapshot and reflection.

🌿 SPELLING AND GRAMMAR

To assist with the editing of their own writing, students are continuing to revise their skills of sentence structure and punctuation.

🌿 MATHS

🌱 Grade 6: Students will continue to explore the features of 2D shapes and 3D objects and how they are connected. They will also investigate volume and capacity, and its connection to the metric system.

🌱 Grade 5: Students will be delving into angles by categorising, measuring and finding missing lengths. They will also explore the features of 2D shapes and 3D objects and how they are connected.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage students to use Mathletics to further develop their skills and understanding of the areas of maths outlined above.

🌿 CBL

🌱 Our Big Idea for Term Four is 'Discovery'.

🪴Our Essential Question is:

🌏 In what ways can digital technologies improve our lives?

🪴Our Guiding Questions are:

🌏 How have the discoveries of digital technologies changed the world?

🌏 How do the positive impacts of digital technologies compared with the negative impacts?

🌱 Students have begun coding their app by following instructions and adjusting parameters. They are tailoring the app to include their own choice of information and pictures.

🌿 HOMEWORK

In addition to reading four times a week for at least 20 minutes, Mathletics and 'What you can do at home' recommendations above, this term:

🌱 Grade 5: Students should catch up on any unfinished 'Buddy Bag' tasks and purchase a small gift (maximum of $10). Students who have self nominated for House Captain should be working on their speech.
