Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 8, Term 4

SWIMMING PROGRAM

Just a reminder that our School Swimming program runs every day this week. It may be important to pack your child with extra snacks each day, generally students are much hungrier after swimming and of course, let's not underestimate how tiring it is to swim each day too!

READING

This week we will continue summarising; identifying important ideas in a text. We will be  challenging ourselves to summarise short texts in one sentence, including the key concepts and main ideas from the text within the sentence.

What you can do at home

Ask your child to read a text from the Reading Eggs library and share with you a summary of  the important parts of the story they read. Prompt your child to tell you what happened at the start, in the middle and then how it ended.

WRITING

This week we will continue practising writing narratives. Students will be encouraged to consider all the important writing elements that we have been focusing on (idea, voice, word choice, organisation, sentence structure and conventions) in order to make their written response engaging for the reader.

What you can do at home

Make up stories together, include characters who have a problem to solve during the story. Find a solution that helps to conclude the story. Be as imaginative as you can when coming up with the story parts!

MATHS

Over the next couple of weeks we will be focusing our maths thinking on many other areas of learning; map reading, location, data collection, and spending money. We will be presenting an exciting collection of tasks around a family day out at the zoo. Students will complete this task on their iPads, it is important that they come to school each day with this learning tool available.

What you can do at home

Encourage your child to spend some time each night exploring Mathletics to help revise many of the concepts that we have looked at throughout this year.
