Headstart Program 2024

On Wednesday, 22nd November, St Peter's College students and teachers embarked upon the 2024 Headstart program.

The Headstart program presents students with a valuable opportunity to begin their educational journey ahead of schedule. Participants will actively immerse themselves in prescribed coursework for each subject, establishing a solid groundwork that they can continue over the summer break so they’re ready to ‘hit the ground running’ in 2024.

It is important that students understand that Headstart is not a 'warm-up'; rather, it signifies a proactive commencement of the 2024 school year, and it requires full engagement and commitment right through until our final day.

Attendance during the Headstart period is mandatory for all students. Full school uniform is required, along with all necessary equipment to facilitate active participation in classroom activities. During the program, students will delve into course materials, working towards their initial assessments. It is likely that all students will have assigned work to complete over the Christmas break, emphasising the importance of continuous learning during the break.

Support At Home:

Encouraging your child's success during Headstart involves:

  • Open Communication:
    • Create an environment where your child feels comfortable sharing their Headstart experiences. Encouraging open communication helps address any concerns they may have.
  • Study Routine:
    • Help establish a consistent study routine that fits with their schedule. Consistent habits now set the tone for a successful academic year.
  • Positive Learning Environment:
    • Ensure your child has access to a quiet study environment at home, minimising distractions to enhance their concentration during study sessions.
  • Stay Updated:
    • Stay informed about the curriculum and school updates. Regularly check communications from St Peter's College for important dates and announcements.

Our Headstart Program is a crucial component of St Peter's commitment to academic excellence. We encourage parents and guardians to support their children's participation, recognising the program's significance in setting the stage for a successful academic year.

If you have any questions or need further information, please reach out to your child’s House Leader or Learning Advisor.

VCE-VM Excursion

This week our Year 11 Vocational Major (VM) and Year 10 Applied Learning students came together with the Clyde North campus for an organised basketball tournament to celebrate the end of the year. Both year levels have worked well together over the course of the year and it was a great activity to involve both campuses. This was followed by a trip to the cinemas. At this time of the year we farewell some of our students who are moving on to their chosen pathways, and this was a great opportunity to do this. We wish all of our students who are leaving St Peter's to move forward with their pathway the best of luck for the future.

PAT During Headstart

In the forthcoming days, students across Headstart Year Levels 8-11 will be participating in Progressive Achievement Testing (PAT). These assessments serve as a mechanism for the College to ascertain the progression of learning across various key areas, including Mathematics, Reading, Grammar & Punctuation, and Vocabulary, at each respective year level.

Students should review the information available on SPACE and posters strategically placed across the College, detailing the schedule and designated rooms for the PAT testing.

It is very important that students bring a functional and fully charged laptop for the duration of the tests.

The schedule for PAT testing is as follows:

  • Year 11: Thursday, 23rd November
  • Year 10: Monday, 27th November, and Tuesday, 28th November
  • Year 9: Friday, 24th November
  • Year 8: Tuesday, 28th November, and Wednesday, 29th November

VET Information Evening

On Tuesday, November 21st, both the Clyde North and Cranbourne campuses held a VET Orientation evening. This event was a wonderful opportunity for students from both campuses and local schools to gather important information about their chosen VET course for the year 2024.  During the evening, our VET Coordinators, Head of Campus, and Deputy Principal -Learning & Teaching were available to answer any questions from parents. Parents and students had the chance to meet their VET Teacher, ask questions, and discuss various aspects of the program, including expectations, reports, excursions, and more.  We have full confidence that our new class of VET students for the year 2024 will be well-prepared to embark on their academic journey. We kindly remind families to promptly complete any pending Operoo applications, including payments and USI details, as this information will greatly assist the enrolment process.  Additionally, we kindly request that you submit your uniform order form as soon as possible. For more detailed information, such as the course unit of competencies, please visit the VET Faculty page at the following link:https://space.stpeters.vic.edu.au/homepage/1577
