Year 3

We have been doing lots of great learning so far this year in Year 3!

In reading we have been reading different picture story books and working on a range of comprehension strategies such as predicting, summarising, making connections, visualising and synthesising.

In writing we have started learning about how to write a narrative. We have created a character and thought about their appearance, personality, and feelings.

In maths we have been learning different addition strategies such as the split strategy, jump strategy and vertical algorithm.

In science we have been learning about heat. We have looked at primary and secondary sources of heat and how heat moves from one object to another.

Lastly, in humanities we have been learning about the First Fleet and Indigenous Culture. We have looked at artefacts and draw an object that we thought would be an artefact in 100 years’ time and would show historians how we live today.

We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

Year 4

The year 4’s have been busy throughout the past couple of weeks beginning new units of work, completing student voice and house

vice-captain speeches and having lots of fun!

Throughout reading and writing, the students have begun looking at narrative stories and writing narratives that include all the relevant elements such as a strong ending, descriptive characters and using adjectives to describe the setting.

In maths we have been focusing on place value and data. We are beginning to survey our peers on questions to collect numerical and categorical data and turning this into bar graphs!

In humanities we have been learning about the First Fleet. We have explored what an artefact is and looking at different artefacts to learn about the history of the First Fleet.

In house 4 we have created a belonging tree! We each decorated a leaf that represents each individual student. If you are ever coming past, pop in and take a look!

Year 5

In Reading, the Year 5 students have been learning how to infer, analyse and synthesise using various texts. They have been learning to infer character traits and how they change throughout a story. They have been digging deep and unpacking the author’s choices and stating how their thinking has grown and changed after gaining new information from reading.

In Writing, the Year 5 students have been learning about narratives. We have created our own version of the character Forky from Toy Story 4 which we have centred our narratives around. We have been using the Story Mountain to create an engaging plot for our readers.

In Maths, we have been learning about Place Value, Addition and Subtraction. Students are learning how to recognise, order and compare numbers up to tens of thousands. They have been developing various addition strategies to solve multi-numbered equations and worded problems. Students are also learning about Data Representation. Students have conducted their own data investigation and have created various visual representations such as column graphs, pie charts and dot plots. As a result, they have been able to interpret the data to gain useful information.

In Science, students have been conducting many experiments to support their learning of different types of matter. Furthermore, in Health, students have been identifying safety risks and how to use appropriate strategies to avoid them within different settings. Lastly, students have learning about Democracy in Humanities. They can identify the different levels of government, our voting rights, and the values in Australia.

Year 6

We have started our last year of primary school! Wow! We are very excited for graduation and camp later on in the year!

In Reading, we have been learning to make predictions and inferences by using text clues and our background knowledge. We have read some amazing texts, like “Stolen Girl”, “The Little Lion” and “Suri’s Wall” which have taught us all about acceptance and respect.

In Writing, we have been creating our own narratives. We have been learning about Freytag’s pyramid and how to build suspense using the pebble, rock, boulder approach. We have analysed texts like Shrek and Toy Story to help identify this!

In Maths, we have been learning how to add and subtract decimals as well as how to plot our data in a range of graphs. Check out our graphs!

Finally in Science, we have been conducting experiments we yeast, bread and mould to learn all about microorganisms in year 6. It has been a very funny, interesting and gross experience. Check out our yeast balloon experiment!
