PREP

What an amazing few weeks we have had in Prep, the students have settled well into their classroom routines and we have been busy learning lots of new things.

During Reading we have been exploring concepts about print. We have been learning where the front cover, back cover and spine of a book are, plus where the title is, a blurb and we have been learning to identify simple punctuation marks. We have had fun learning the sounds that m, s, t and a make and are working hard to be able to decode words that contain these sounds. We are also working hard to recognise all letters of the alphabet.

In Writing we have been working hard to write recounts about fun activities we have been completing in the classroom such as blowing bubbles, playing games and fine motor skill activities. Our focus has been on the ‘Think, Talk, Write, Draw’ process as well as correct pencil grip and writing posture. Students have also been learning to write their names correctly with a capital letter and lowercase letters. This is a quick and easy activity you can assist your child with at home.

During Mathematics we have been exploring numbers to 20. You can help your child at home by counting forwards and backwards to 20 from various starting points. The students have enjoyed matching numerals to collections of objects and we have been working hard to point to each number as we count. We have also been learning about Time, in particular events that occur during the daytime and night time plus the days of the week. Students really enjoy singing the Addams Family Days of the Week song on YouTube.

In Science we have been exploring the 5 senses. Recently we learnt about the sense of sight and students were asked to sort objects in different ways. Jordan and Myles sorted their bug counters according to type whereas Adhvik and Arjun sorted their counters by colour. The students really enjoyed this activity and it was great to see them working together in group

Year 1

In Year 1, students have been experimenting with different mediums to write words, letters and sentences. They have been reading and writing CVC words using sounds and patterns.

During Humanities, Students have shared the special celebrations they have with their families. We are learning all about how families in our class may celebrate different events or the same event differently.

In Maths, Year 1s have continued to practice counting and building numbers using groups of ten.

In Science, Students have been examining different materials are used for specific things and how they can change. They also had lots of fun building towers out of marshmallows and pasta.

Year 2

We're thrilled to share the amazing progress our fantastic Year 2 students are making!

Our students are turning into word wizards! They are working on their punctuation and can easily spot nouns in sentences. Their sentences are becoming real showstoppers! We have been seeing such an improvement in their narrative as well!

In maths, our Year 2 kids are now working towards becoming experts at telling time! They have been exploring the clock for o'clock, half past, and even quarter past and to hours. Our students are place value wizards! Students are able to identify the place value of digits and even the value! We are so proud.

Reading is a blast, and our Year 2s are loving every bit of it! We're seeing a real passion for books, especially the Pig the Pug series. They are becoming experts at summarising the important parts and making inferences about Pig's motives.

Parents, you're superheroes! Your active involvement is making a huge difference. Keep chatting with your children about their day, celebrating those victories, and working on their homework together. Teamwork is making our Year 2 dreams come true!
