A Reflection from one of our Library Monitors

“I began working as a library monitor at the start of the year. I found out about the role because of the Library Tour at the start of Year 7. I find working in the Library to be rewarding and a new way to connect with peers. Being a library monitor entails returning and borrowing books as well as cleaning the Library and helping run events in the Library. I really enjoyed helping out this year and I can’t wait to help out next year.Priya P. (Yr 8)

WATCH THIS SPACE: The Library Team has received more than a dozen applications for the Library Monitor’s volunteering role. We are very excited to announce our new monitors for 2024 after all applications have been considered. Being a Library monitor is a privilege as this rewarding role entails training and developing important skills and responsibilities volunteers can certainly transfer to and use in future employment opportunities.

HIGHVALE WRITERS CLUB

Highvale students are given the opportunity to express themselves through the Highvale Writers Club where they submit literary creations in all forms. Please check out our latest submission, an excerpt from Susan P. (Yr12) as part of her amazing Studio Art Exploration research:

“The theme I wish to explore in my studio process is my time living in Greece. It is my source of inspiration as it was a really special and incredible time in my life to have had the opportunity and the experience to live in Greece which was my dream for so many years. I want to explore the topics of where I lived for 7 months, and the famous monuments of Crete. The summertime in Greece such as the beaches and the beautiful nature and lastly why Greece is so important and special to me, displaying where my family originated, special memories and all the places I visited.

The subject matter I would like to focus on is the nature and landscapes to capture Greece’s beauty, sunsets and landscapes to portray the summertime atmosphere and famous historical monuments.

Dimitra Milan is an artist whose work is really inspiring to me. I am greatly inspired by how dreamy and realistic her paintings are, and how they look as though they are from another world which is really captivating. Milan’s art style is abstract realism. Each artwork is layered with symbolism, often provoking deep emotions. She expresses love, hope, authenticity, and beauty through her brushstrokes… This may influence my art making process by giving me inspiration to work with many different colours and practice using abstract art in my paintings to create a loose effect, which I don’t normally do in my paintings, and I would like to experiment with this style.”
