It was a great opportunity for our community to come together on Friday 24 November for the last of our 50th Anniversary events. Whilst the weather finally interrupted the evening, we had a good couple of hours of fun activities, market stalls and yummy food. I also appreciated the kind words of farewell from Amy Van der Veen, Mim Stekelenburg and Rod Beams, representing all our fabulous parents. Partnership and relationship with parents is one of the aspects of my role I have enjoyed the most!
On Tuesday we had a fabulous day as new students who will be joining us in 2024 came to meet new faces, as well as all our Kinder-Year 9 students having the opportunity to ‘step-up’ into their new classes and year levels. There was lots of activity and excitement throughout the day. Whilst transitions are exciting, they can also be difficult for some. Let’s pray that the transition from this year to the next is a calm and positive one, but particularly for those that are coming to join our MECS community.
The last of our significant ‘rituals’ for our Year 6 students will happen this Friday night as we gather together with family and friends to congratulate these students on their Graduation from Primary School. This is always a fabulous evening where students enjoy a delicious meal together before the ‘big event’ in the gym. We are really looking forward to it. Look out for lots of pictures in our special Christmas newsletter next week.
Another significant, new opportunity is our participation in the Montrose Community Carols this upcoming Sunday. Our Primary school choir will be participating, plus we have the responsibility of facilitating the very important sausage sizzle!
Finally, we would love to see many of our families at the Primary School Christmas Assembly next Monday at 9.30am. It would be great to see a large, supportive crowd as this will be the last school assembly! Parents and friends can enjoy a quick cuppa in the main staffroom from 9am.
Congratulations to Heather Mellow once again for the fabulous school magazine that has been produced for our 50th Anniversary year. As always, it really captures the sense of community at the heart of our school. You can look forward to receiving your copy next week.
As this will be our last full newsletter for the year, we want to wish every student and family a safe and happy break. The coming week will be filled with special assemblies, class celebrations and sad farewells, cleaning and sorting and sharing excitement about the holidays ahead. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday January 29, 2024.
