Japanese Club Excursion

On Tuesday 21 November fourteen members of the Japanese Club went into the CBD to visit the Japanese Consulate, where they were treated to a seminar on Japanese Pop Culture and a display of Samurai armour and katana swords. This was followed by lunch in Superhiro in Swanson Street, a great Japanese restaurant where the food was delivered by a robot! The day concluded with some quirky shopping in Daiso - where they found all manner of things from miniature manhole covers to chair socks and so much more... at just $3.30 per item, it was a great place for some Christmas shopping!

Special thanks to Mrs Sketcher for joining us once again - we hope she enjoyed her final Japanese excursion!

Making the World a Better Place

Let’s spread kindness, love and light,

And work to make the world more bright.

With every small and selfless act

We’ll leave a positive impact.

Let’s lend a hand to those in need,

And sow the seeds of hope and deed.

With every smile and generous heart,

We’ll make the world a better part.

So let’s come together, one and all,

And answer the world’s hopeful call.

With every step, let’s strive to be

The change we want the world to see.

Pink

Pink looks like the first warm day of summer,

the sun shining through the trees at the park.

Pink tastes like a cold sweet strawberry,

that I just bought from the beachside kiosk.

Pink feels like a warm, long awaited embrace,

from a loved one who you haven’t seen in a long time.

Pink smells like the new blooming roses,

Outside my grandma’s house.

Blue

Blue looks like the endless deep waves

crashing against my ankles at Rye.

Blue tastes like the chilled lemonade in my hand as

I stroll along the beach at Burleigh Heads.

Blue feels like the icy, clear water

of my grandparents pool

on a warm summers day

Blue smells like sweet chewy minties

shared with my friends after a full day at the water park.

Struggle

What is your struggle?

What is your anchor?

What do you think struggle even is?

Struggle is like being landed in a desert of loneliness.

Struggle is something that you might find yourself in.

Struggle is not just an emotion.

Hope is not just an emotion.

Hope is the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hope is something you find after the struggle.

What is your Struggle?

What is your Hope?

A Place Called School

There’s a place called school

It’s where you learn, but

It’s also where you make friends

And where you lose them

It’s where you laugh

And cry

It’s where you escape to

And where you want to escape from

It’s where you find yourself

And where you lose yourself

It’s where you get comfort

And it's what you need comfort from

It’s everything and nothing

All at the same time

Gold

Swirling gold aura

Swirling black power

Opposites attract

Or do they?

The same

a fight

a break

a fix

a sorry

But is there forgiveness?

Only Human

We live, we die

We sleep, we rise

We laugh, we cry

It’s a never ending cycle.

All the time, I hear people say

I’m just a drop in the ocean.

I’m nothing special,

I’m only human,

What can I do about it?

And this is what I say to them:

Without that drop

The ocean would be one drop less.

Look at Neil Armstrong

The first man on the moon.

And he was only human.

Then there was Thomas Edison

Without him, we’d all be in the dark

And he was only human.

All throughout history

There are people like them.

Malala, Einstein, Da Vinci, Iron Man

The list goes on and on.

Only human is something you choose to be

And only you can change that

So don’t tell me you’re only human

If you haven’t tried to be something else.

Healing

Healing is a process.

When you have just come out of a storm.

As much as you’d like to,

You can’t be warm and dry instantly.

It takes time.

It takes effort.

Take things one step at a time and it will get easier.

You will find peace again.

You’ll learn to dance in the rain.

You will learn to appreciate the storm.

Because of how it made you treasure the warm.
