Principal's Report

Term 1, 2024

WELCOME

Term 1 continues to be an outstanding success, and both the tone around our school and the collective focus from our students on their learning is to be congratulated. Moreover, I will take this opportunity to recognise the outstanding commitment and willingness of our students to participate in the many co-curricular activities on offer at our school, including the annual Sports Carnival, musical soirees, cycling club, drama club and swim squad to name a few. I would particularly like to congratulate our inter-school swimming team on their fantastic efforts in the pool on Thursday 29 February. The College has now won this championship for the 3rd year in a row.  I would also like to share the success of our recent Athletics Day at Ballam Park. It was a whole school event, and I was extremely proud of how well the students participated and represented our college on the day.

Open Night was a great success earlier this term. It was brilliant to see so many students volunteering to help, talking with parents, and genuinely enjoying themselves! The culture of pride that our students have of their school is extremely rewarding to see and a testament to the great young people we have learning with us.

College Council Election Results

The College Council elections have concluded, and it is with great pleasure that I welcome all new and returning members to the Dromana College Council and look forward to working with the new council to continue to deliver excellence in education for the Mornington Peninsula. I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank those retiring members of the Dromana College Council for their contributions to the college in making Dromana College the great school that we are today.

Building Fund

We have received many donations this year towards our tax-deductible building fund, and on behalf of the College community I take this opportunity to express my gratitude for these financial contributions. The money received is held in a specially marked account and will be used to improve the physical surroundings in which our students work. Thank you.

Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews

Monday 22nd April 2024 has been set aside for Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews between the times of 12:00 noon and 8:00 pm. This is a student free day and consequently students are not required for classes on this day. The purpose of these interviews is to support student academic progress, and it is an important opportunity for parents, students and teachers to discuss how the 2024 academic year is progressing for each student.

ACCIDENT INSURANCE COVER FOR STUDENTS

Some school activities and physical education, particularly contact sports, carry inherent risks of injury. Parents are advised that the Department of Education does not have Student Accident Insurance cover for students. Therefore, if your child is injured at school because of an accident or incident, all costs associated with the injury, including medical costs, are the responsibilities of the child, parent or caregiver. Some incidental medical costs may be covered by Medicare. If parents have private health insurance, some costs may also be covered through the private health insurance. Any other costs would be borne by the parents. Student Accident Insurance is an insurance policy that pays certain benefits should your child have an accident. It is a personal decision for parents which type and level of private insurance they purchase.

An approved insurance broker should be contacted if you have any questions about insurance cover.

Personal Goods brought to School at Owner’s Risk

Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.
