Hindi Reflection

As we reflect on the vibrant journey of our Year 7 and Year 8 Hindi students, it’s heartening to see their linguistic threads weaving a rich tapestry of learning. The Year 7s are mastering the foundational elements of Hindi—numbers, vowels, and consonants—with an eagerness that brightens every lesson. Meanwhile, the Year 8s are taking a step further, crafting two-letter words and blending numbers and colours into short phrases and sentences that paint their thoughts vividly.

Beyond the written word, our students are embracing the rhythm of culture through dance, preparing a Harmony song in Hindi for the upcoming multicultural day assembly. Their enthusiasm doesn’t stop at music; the harmonium’s keys have found eager fingers among our students, drawing parallels with the familiar Casio or piano, yet offering the unique charm of a wind instrument.

The classroom is also a place of tranquillity, where yoga and mindfulness exercises like Yog Nidra and relaxing breathing techniques provide brain breaks and a moment of introspection amidst the bustling school day.

Looking ahead, the multicultural assembly stands as a beacon of celebration, where our students will showcase the harmony of diverse cultures. And as we venture into the world of multicultural foods, our upcoming sessions promise to be a feast for the senses and the mind.

Structured Workplace Learning

Active Volunteering Certificate II is more than just a generous act; it's a pathway to personal growth and development. Students engaging in volunteer work not only benefits the community but also provides individuals with a wide range of transferable, employability, and life skills that can be invaluable in various aspects of life.

One of the most significant advantages of active volunteering is the development of transferable skills. These skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, are highly sought after by employers across all industries. Through volunteering, individuals can have the opportunity to enhance these skills in a real-world setting, making them more marketable once they commence with part time to full time employment.

This year every Friday, we have been fortunate to run both the Active Volunteering and Structured workplace learning course here at LSC. Students have registered to partake in the work that not only to supports our school, but also in the Community. The students completing the course must complete the practical and theoretical part of the course. with units such as:

  • Communicate and work in Health and Community Services.
  • Participate in work health and safety.
  • How to be an effective volunteer
  • Work with Diverse people.

The Structured Workplace Learning students consist of Year 11 and 12 students from LSC and CESC who will only be required to complete the practical side of the course within a leadership capacity. They will collaborate and make choices about the projects that we will work on in the Community. We will be posting highlights of our work throughout the year.

Food Technology

During Term 1 in Food Technology, Year 8 students have been exploring different aspects of cooking in the school’s kitchen. We’ve learnt about knife safety, food preparation coupled with amazing practical cooking activities.

We started off baking mini quiches. With a wide variety of scrumptious ingredients to choose from, the Year 8s designed their filling. Many students recalled the incredible aroma of the quiches as they were baking and the pride of watching their creations come to life in the kitchen.

We also created mini pizzas and had a broad array of delectable ingredients. With the ability to make a pizza sauce to our taste, we were able to create exceptionally brilliant-tasting pizzas and took them home to be enjoyed with our families.

Currently, the Year 8’s are working on their projects where they create their own smoothies as part of a design process. All in all, Food Technology is a subject that is a crowd favourite among the class of 8A and the other Year 8 classes too.
