From the Student Leaders

Careena and Neal, Cantley Captains, interviewed Mic Lowne about his experience as a new teacher at Vermont Primary School in 2024.

Q1 What do you enjoy teaching most in Digitech?

I have absolutely loved teaching Digitech this year and letting students imaginations run wild with both Scratch and LEGO Spike Prime. But I don’t think it’s any secret that the LEGO is my favourite thing to teach with.  My favourite classes have been ones where I have given 1-2 sentences as ‘instructions’ and students have let their imaginations run wild with their creations.  Every class somebody makes a robot or creation I didn’t see coming or finds a solution I wouldn’t have thought of and that excites me to see the creativity around the school.

Q2 If you had a choice to teach a different subject, what would it be and why or why would you keep teaching digitech?

I don’t know that I could teach any other subject in the school, I’m not a great numeracy or literacy teacher, can’t speak another language or play an instrument and my art skills are nothing to write home about. If I had to do something else I’d probably move towards drama or history (I’m jealous of the year 5’s going back to Sovereign Hill this year, I love dressing up in the old fashion clothes and carrying a walking stick around).

Q3 Have you had a great experience teaching at Vermont Primary School?

Vermont Primary really is an amazing school to work at, the students surprise me everyday with cool ideas and thoughts, the teachers are super friendly and I get to play with LEGO! Really it’s a pretty sweet place to spend my days.
