Catholic Identity

Catholic Identity Reflection

Religious Education Leader - Elizabeth Holligan

6th Sunday of Easter Year B

St Anne’ College vision and mission statements reflect this week’s readings and Gospel.

St Anne’s College is a Catholic community welcoming all, inspired by a loving God, committed to faith, wisdom and learning.

When listening and reflecting on the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, I recognise the words of the Apostle Peter in our College.

‘The truth I have now come to realise’ he said, ‘is that God does not have favourites, but that anybody of any nationality who fears God and does what is right is acceptable to him.’

As a Catholic dialogue school, we are called to be Catholic. Catholic - meaning open to all, to everyone, and apostolic, following the teachings of Jesus Christ as taught to us by the Apostles. Living and spreading God’s message to love one another as Christ loved us.

Every day at St Anne’s College we also embrace a pedagogy of joy, aware that each child, teenager, and adult in our lives face a world of worry and fear, along with other life challenges. As a college community we aim to live this week’s Gospel message: ‘I have told you this so that my own joy may be in you and your joy be complete. This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you.’

We are reminded to love impartially, with faith, giving our all so that others may live. Where relationships are broken, to bring hope and love. To recognise and acknowledge the joy and beauty of each person as they are, not as we expect them to be.

May God provide us with his strength and loving guidance each day to be people of love and joy, in our lives as parents, grandparents, and carers to those we encounter. May we love one another as Christ loved us.

Term 2 Social Justice Awareness and Fire Carrier Students

Each term, the St Anne’s College community works to raise awareness and funds for Catholic charities and other charities that support the philosophy of our college ethos. This term we are raising awareness and fundraising for Opening the Doors Foundation. The foundation's focus is to: ‘keep Koorie kids in an education of their choice’ by supporting First Nations children in education. Our Fire Carrier students will organise an awareness campaign focusing on the importance of supporting First Nations children in education and how this is possible through this foundation. The Fire Carrier students will also actively participate in other First Nations awareness and reconciliation activities leading up to and beyond National Reconciliation Week from 27 May to 3 June. Keep an eye on PAM for their articles and activity notices.
