This Week's Notes

'Healthy Body, Healthy Minds'

Sports, in particular team based sports, have countless benefits many of which include life skills. These are building resilience, improved mental health, social and emotional skills, bone health, better coordination and balance as well as likelihood of leading active lifestyle in the long term.

In addition to all above, my first encounter of rural footy contest at Cavendish a couple of weeks back also confirmed how significant sports is for building strong culture and sense of community.  To this end, my recent conversations with other principals during my first local schools network meeting also revealed how fortunate I am for being part of such a proud, strong and special community in Cavendish.

This week we had a very sporty week. We had a practice run around the school as part of our regular huff and puff session on Wednesday, then,  cross country on Thursday and for some of our students, division athletics on Friday.

Coming from a sports background and still playing sports every weekend at least one or two games a week, I was really pleased to see all our students participate at cross country and would like to specially congratulate Maddie Porter, Emma Thomas, Thomas Hurley and Cooper Leese for being selected to represent our school at Division Athletics in Warrnambool this Friday.

Cross Country

It was great having all students making the effort to get down to the Wannon River and giving their best at running in our cross country. Thanks to all our parents who made it to the event for all their support as well.

Smile Squad

We had Smile Squad visit our school on Wednesday doing dental checks for our students and making sure that they know how to take care of their teeth on a daily basis including regular flossing.  Students all received dental packs as well.

Division Athletics at Warrnambool

We had the mat and the hurdles out this week and students have been practising and role modelling excellent behaviour for their juniors at the school at lunchtimes.

As we were short of teachers today, we were not able to leave the school to be with the students so a big thank you to all the parents for driving their children down for this event. See the Division Aths page later in the newsletter.

Mother's Day Stall

The Parents Club have arranged to hold a Mother's Day stall on Monday 6th May at school.  Students are allowed to bring in up to $10 to buy something special in readiness for Mother's Day on Sunday May 12th.  Please send the money in an envelope or zip lock bag.

Open Morning

On Tuesday 14th May we will hold an open morning for family/grandparents/special friends to join us in class between 9-11am.  This is always a day that our students look forward to, to have their special guest sit with them in class and to show them how smart they all are!  Any families in our district that have young children and are considering Cavendish PS for their child's education are more than welcome to join us on this morning.

We know that parents have donated a lot of food lately with the Red Gum Festival and Golf Day but we would appreciate it if you could provide a small plate of morning tea for this.
