Victorian President's Report

Tina King- APF Victorian President

Whilst many enjoyed some rest and respite that the term break offers, the tragic and heart-breaking recent events in Victoria and NSW have had a profound impact on us all.  As school leaders you are tasked with facing the challenge of managing your own reactions while possibly presented with the need to support your students, staff and wider community.  Such critical events can create a sense of doom and gloom, with people responding by becoming despondent and feeling that the world is more frightening and dangerous.

We know that school leaders play a crucial role in navigating and leading local communities through impact and recovery. However, this is not a task that should undertaken on your own. It is important that while caring for others, you also prioritise you own well-being by reaching out and accessing various supports available, be it through connecting with your network of trusted colleagues, support organisations such as the APF, professional associations or the Department's resources and supports.

Stay safe and well and very best wishes for the term ahead.  Please reach out for advice or support as needed.
