Teaching and Learning

Hello Parents

This year, our school is focusing on a new way of teaching and learning to help empower students. We call it Developmental Assessment.    Developmental Assessment is a step-by-step approach to learning all the important skills in each subject. Our teachers have been working hard to create Curriculum Maps. These maps explain the entire curriculum in a way that's easy for students to understand. They break down each skill into simple, "I can" statements. This way, students can see what they're learning now and what they'll learn next.

Starting in Semester 2, teachers will be trying out something called Learning Pathways in Year 7 classes. Some Learning Pathways will be on paper, while others will be on OneNote, a digital platform. Either way, students will begin by thinking about what they already know at the beginning of a unit. Then, as they learn and grow in class, they'll track their progress.  Students and teachers will talk about the skills together and figure out what the students are ready to learn next. This way, learning becomes more personalised and focused on what each student needs.

Learning Pathways won't just be in Year 7. Some teachers might introduce them in other subjects next semester too.

We encourage you to talk to your child about this exciting new way of learning and feel free to contact the school if you want more information.
