Athena Aligizakis

Lots of news to report from the Career & Pathways Office this month!

Year 12's

All Year 12 students will start to notice that a careers counselling appointment will be scheduled into their diary between now and the end of term. Thank you to those who have already attended!    Where possible this will be arranged during a study period. This is your opportunity to ask me questions and also for me to provide you with information regarding your chosen pathway post Year 12.  Please come prepared to the meeting with your questions, so I can help you find your pathway post Year 12 and how you’re going to navigate your way there. And if you’re not sure what you want to do next, we can chat about lots of other options for you.

Year 10's had their work experience placements in the week beginning 13 May 2024. Overall employers were very impressed with our students! We’d like to thank all of the parents, friends and businesses in our community who took on our students for work experience and we hope it was as much a learning experience for you as it was for our students – thank you!

Below are some snapshots of students learning lots of new things in different workplaces.

Your World. Your VCE. is an evolution of the Many talents. One VCE campaign in 2022 and 2023 highlighting that the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning would be replaced.

Creating Worlds where passions can be explored

The VCE's new Vocational Major lets students explore their passions and talents.

The VCE Vocational Major is a 2-year applied learning program within the VCE and includes 180 hours of Vocational Education and Training (VET), so students obtain real-world skills and knowledge to one day land a job in Australia’s most in-demand industries.

Whether they’re into music production, hospitality or agriculture, VCE Vocational Major students finish school with an employability edge, ready to take on work, life and more study. Students complete a high-quality curriculum, and work toward completing a VET qualification while finishing school.  The Victorian Pathways Certificate is a new flexible Year 11 and 12 course designed for the small number of students who, for a range of reasons, are not able or ready to undertake the VCE or the VCE Vocational Major in schools.  Teachers and career counsellors are available to answer questions, and to support students as they make decisions about their final years at school.

For example, candidates registering for UCAT ANZ 2024 should have completed, or plan to complete their final year of secondary schooling in 2024, that is, Year 12 in Australia or Year 13 in New Zealand.
