The first term at our College has seen continued growth and success in the Health & Physical Education Department and Sports Program. We've seen an increase in student participation in our weekly and representative sports as players, officials, and coaches. New and enhanced programs have been introduced, and we've established new partnerships with universities and sporting organisations, providing students with valuable opportunities to explore future pathways and continue their passion for sports.
House Sports Days
Over three action-packed days, our annual College House Sports Day Championship took place with great enthusiasm. Students competed in a variety of athletic and team-based events to earn points for their House. The turnout was impressive, the weather was perfect, and the competitive spirit was high. Here are the results:
Top performers from these events will compete in the upcoming representative athletic events in Term 2. If your child is selected, we will share details soon. We wish these students the very best!
Year 3-6 Cross Country
Our Year 3-6 students showed excellent participation in the annual House Cross Country Event. The courses were thoughtfully adjusted to better suit the students and officials, yet still covered the appropriate distances. Emerald House won, averaging 65 points, followed closely by Ruby House with 63 points, and Topaz House with 54 points.
Points were tallied based on each student's event position and averaged out based on total House enrolment.
There were some impressive results achieved of our students and top performers will have the opportunity to compete at SACSA Cross Country Championships coming up on Wednesday 15 May (Week 3, Term 2).
Basketball
As we wrapped up our summer programs, our basketball students from the Fundamentals and Introduction programs showed promising progress. The Emmaus Blue Jays triumphed in the summer finals. Meanwhile, our Emmaus Eagle Club Basketball teams have been successful across various age groups, setting a strong foundation for the winter season.
Term one marked the conclusion of our vibrant summer sports programs. Our Fundamentals basketball students successfully completed their basic training and are now set to advance to our Introduction to Basketball program. The latter program concluded with the summer finals, where students were awarded medals. Notably, the Emmaus Blue Jays triumphed as the season's champions!
The Emmaus Eagle Club Basketball teams celebrated a successful summer with Championship victories in the Under-16, Under-14, and Under-12 categories, and an additional runner-up position in the Under-12s.
Our Under-10 teams also enjoyed a successful season, setting a strong foundation for the upcoming winter season. Currently, our three United Districts All Emmaus Teams are actively competing in their Championship Season. The Under-10 boys' team is ranked fourth, and the Under-12 boys' team is leading, a game clear at the top of the ladder. The Under-16 boys are competing in a 12-team league and are currently well positioned in seventh place as they approach the finals.
Looking forward, we are excited to expand our Winter sports programs, having grown to a total of 33 extracurricular teams, thus surpassing previous levels of engagement.
Netball Development Program
Our secondary school Netball Development Program continues to thrive, focusing on enhancing fitness, ball skills, and court strategies. The term is lined up with knockout competitions and friendly matches, offering plenty of opportunities for growth and improvement.
SACSA Swimming
Our college performed exceptionally at the SACSA Swimming Championships, where our mixed team of 24 swimmers across Years 3 to 11, clinched the Division 1 title.
We are extremely pleased with our students results! One Emmaus student was recognised for her achievement and competed at the State District Swimming Carnival event.
SACSA Volleyball
During Week 11, four teams competed in the SACSA Volleyball carnival: Year 9/10 Girls, Year 9/10 Boys, and Year 7/8 Boys. These teams had diligently prepared for the events during their lunch breaks, honing their volleyball skills and building on the knowledge gained from their curriculum lessons. Their commitment to playing to their strengths, working collaboratively, and adhering to the game plan paid off, as three of our teams advanced to the finals.
Notably, the Year 9/10 Girls and Year 7/8 Boys teams reached the Grand Finals, where they performed excellently and finished as runners-up.
Well done to all teams and coaches involved for their hard work and impressive achievements!
Looking ahead to Term 2, we have a series of exciting events planned:
We are proud of all our students' sporting achievements and we are pleased to share the following notable achievements:
There are a number of students who have signed up to trial for District and State sporting squads, some of have already commenced and we are now waiting on final selections. We wish these students all the very best in their endeavours.
