Our inquiry topic this term is ‘Australian History.’ The unit tracks the journey of the song ‘We are Australian’ and the picture book/ ABC series ‘My Place.’ The students will be learning about ANZAC Day, the culture and history of the First Nations people. Also, we will learn about the early sea explorers, the First Fleet, convicts, inland explorers, early settlers, the Gold Rush, Federation, and our notable First Nations people.

This topic will develop students’ critical and creative thinking and collaboration skills to enable them to develop their understanding and perspective of Australian history and the significance of country to our Indigenous people.

The students will be attending a camp at Sovereign Hill which will align with our inquiry unit. Sovereign Hill is a living museum that captures the essence of the Gold Rush. The children will be able to experience this time in Australian History.

To celebrate their learning, the students will be preparing for an exciting end-of-term Open Night. For those students with older siblings who are aware of our celebration, the characters for the celebration will be discussed and selected later in the term.
