A parent vacancy has arisen on School Council for 2024.
Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school. Parents who become active on a school council find their involvement satisfying and may also find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging. You do not need any special experience to be on School Council. What you do need is an interest in your child’s school and the desire to work in partnership with others to help shape the school’s future.
School Council meets two times each term starting at 6:30pm. School Councillors are also required to be on a sub-committee of School Council – Finance, Buildings or Community Links.
Please contact the school office if you are interested.
Just a reminder that there are 4 designated car areas (P2 minute zones) for dropping off your child/ren in the morning between 8-9am. There are two on Bradford Avenue and two down Langton Way.
These areas are NOT FOR PARKING during these times. They are a ‘Kiss & Drop’ zones. These areas work effectively if parents do exactly that – pull up, kiss their child/ren, children get out of the car, parent drives off and vacates the space so that the next car can do the same. Parents must NOT park and leave their car in these zones in the morning before 9:00am. Parking officers from Hume City Council frequently drive around our school. However, more importantly our school values of Respect and Responsibility. Respect for other families within the school community and allowing them access to also drop off their children in the ‘Kiss and Drop’ zones and Responsibility to follow parking instructions as signed.
Additionally, please do not park on the school crossing or next to the flags. Children are walking behind the cars when this happens, which is very dangerous. Please ensure that your child crosses the road using the crossing, we have had a number of near misses due to children not using the crossing.
There is NO parent parking in the school car park.If you want to leave your car to accompany your child into the school you will need to find parking in the surrounding streets.
Please be considerate and safe.
Reading is an important way to make the link from spoken words to written words.
Reading to your child is a valuable thing to do. Here are some tips:
Reading with your child will begin when your child becomes familiar with the story and can take over some of the reading.
When your child reads to you, allow time for working out words and ask questions to see if he or she understands what they have read.
If your child is trying to read a long or tricky word, give your child time and ask questions like these:
It’s also important for you to show your child how you read every day for different purposes, for example: recipes, greeting cards, calendars, shopping lists, food labels, instructions, maps, newspapers, emails, signs, and websites.
Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is banned within the school grounds and within four metres of an entrance to all primary and secondary schools, childcare centres and kindergartens in Victoria under an amendment to the Tobacco Act 1987.
The smoking ban applies to:
