From the Year 3 Classroom

Well done to our wonderful Year Three students and all their hard work in our learning space.  We appreciate our students' dedication to their morning organisation androutine ensuring they are ready for learning.

Reading- Our reading focus is an author study on renowned Australian author Claire Saxby.  Over the next few weeks we will be exploring her non-fiction narrative texts and in particular her writing’s vivid detail through interesting and descriptive word choice.

Writing- Students chose to publish their ‘Famous Australian’ biography’ or their planet information report. They researched, drafted and edited their work before typing their final copy. We had a strong focus on including non fiction text features (sub headings, images, captions, fun facts. etc) Students have loved finding out about their chosen person or planet and were able to put the information into paragraphs in their own words. Moving on we will begin a nonfiction narrative, where students will again research an Australian animal and create a story based on true facts about that animal. Students will publish using Clips with a voice over reading their story aloud.

Maths- Our current Maths focus is Time. In Year 3 students need to know to tell the time to the minute as well as understanding ‘half past’ ‘quarter past’ and ‘quarter to’ and the features of an analogue clock..

Timetables

A shout out to the effort students are putting into learning their times tables. Hopefully your child has been talking about our Timetables Challenge we have happening in Grade 3 and they have been coming home with timetable cards to practice. We encourage students to keep practicing at home.

A huge round of applause to Aricha who has completed all her tables from 2 x all the way to 12 x. An outstanding effort.  Well done Aricha!

RE- In Religious Education our Source of Life unit of work is ‘Sacraments of Initiation,.  We are exploring the three Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist and their importance in our Catholic Faith Journey.

Inquiry- As we come to an end of the Earth and space Science unit, we begin our Physical Science Unit on Heat Energy. Areas we will be investigating include:

  • How  heat energy makes things happen
  • The different ways heat energy is produced
  • How heat energy moves and flows from one object to another
  • How we  measure heat
  • The effects of heat energy on our everyday lives

Our budding Grade 3 scientists have been enthusiastic with the Science unit this term,. engaging in interesting research, discussions and experiments.

Reminders

Please remember that we ask all students to bring their Reading Diary on each Friday so we can check in on their home reading.  Many students are forgetting to do this so if parents and guardians could remind them it would be greatly appreciated.
