Last week we saw the STEM Student Boardroom fill up with an incredible array of what can only be described as a creative collision of coloured bricks and imagination.
Some of our winning students from each category have reflected on their build:
My build is about an abandoned base that was hit by a meteor. It was fun to make and it looks cool - Cohen (Prep).
My build is about a zoo, with lots of animals and people having fun. I feel good with zoos and I had lots of blocks I could use to build it - Abbygail (Year 1).
My build is about the adults going for a trip and the kids staying home. The kids can do whatever they want. I started building an airport but didn't like it, so I changed the design to a house - Cooper B (Year 2).
My build was a mini figure clock. I thought it would look funny and cool and it could teach people about time - Aiden (Year 2).
My build is about a hollow design using lots of colours. I wanted to build something cool - Adele (Year 3).
My build is about the song 'Hickory Dickory Dock.' I wanted to build a real thing that people knew - Archie (Year 5).
I built a dino mask because I like dinosaurs - Ruby B (Year 6).
My build is about a paddle steamer on the River Murray. My grandparents have a house on the bank of the River Murray - Leah (Year 6).
This Friday 28 June DCS Primary will host a ping pong (table tennis) event that will last ALL DAY! All students are welcome to participate. Preps will engage in ping pong themed games, while Year 1 to Year 6 students will rotate through the official game.
All Primary students from Kinder to Year 6 are encouraged to wear crazy, silly socks on the day and bring a gold coin donation. The donations will support the official Ping Pong-a-Thon organisation, which works with communities in Asia to fight slavery. According to www.pingpongathon.com, they "bring communities together and unite them under one cause: bringing freedom to the world’s most vulnerable. The fun and freedom of table tennis is our weapon of choice to bring slavery to an end."
Parent Teacher interviews will be held in Term 3 on Tuesday 30th July from 3.30pm-5.30pm and Wednesday 31st July from 3.30pm-8.30pm for both Primary and Secondary. Bookings for Parent Teacher Interviews can be done through Parent Lounge which will be open for bookings from 8:00am Monday 1st July. Please have a look at this exciting new feature once it opens up!
Primary interviews will be held in both the Jiloa Centre and Alpha HQ (STEM Centre), and the Secondary interviews will be held in the Secondary classrooms. Please note, for secondary families wishing to see Jack Harvey, he will be meeting with parents in the Jiloa Centre.
All class teachers will be available for you to speak with, including our specialist teachers.
If you would like to make an appointment to discuss any aspect of your child's learning, please click here to book your times through Parent Lounge. We recommend booking early as spaces fill fast. When booking, particularly for families wanting both secondary and primary appointments, please ensure to allow enough time between appointments to meet with staff in different buildings.
If logging in to Parent Lounge for the first time, please use the unique user code that was emailed to all families on 17th April and use the 'Forgot Password' option to set your own unique password. If you then save this in your browser you will be able to simply log in again in the future.
Once you have logged in, please take the time to click around to explore what is available in Parent Lounge. Not only can you book Parent Teacher Interview times, but you can record student absences as well as check that all of the information listed under Parent Details and Student Details is correct. This includes address, MCEECDYA Details, student emergency contact details, student medical information and church attending.
If you have any queries or need assistance to login, please contact the school on 6423 1373 or email reception@dcs.tas.edu.au
Mid-year reports will be sent home with students at the beginning of Term Three.
