Principal's Ponderings

From our Principal - Mr Chad Smit

It's Time

Time is one of life's greatest mysteries, a concept so fundamental yet so elusive. Even Einstein pondered its relationship with space and movement. Time can be seen as a measure of change: a gear turns, a quartz crystal vibrates, the sun traverses the sky and the moon orbits the earth. These phenomena measure time but do not explain its essence.

We measure time in various ways:

Analogue Watch: With hands moving around a circular face divided into twelve sections, showing the passage of hours.

Digital Watch: Displays hours, minutes and seconds with an electronic read-out.

Sundial: Uses a triangular arm casting a shadow on a circular base to indicate the time of day, relying on sunlight.

Lunar Calendar: Tracks the moon's phases, correlating its shape with the date and time of the year.

Each method represents the passage of time differently, which can be confusing for children. Teaching them how to tell time helps them understand punctuality, readiness and the importance of managing their activities. Time, when used wisely, enriches relationships and builds character.

A Time for Everything - Ecclesiastes 3:1-14 reminds us:

'There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.'

God has orchestrated every season of our lives with purpose. He has made everything beautiful in its time and set eternity in our hearts, even though we cannot comprehend His grand design from beginning to end. Our task is to find joy and purpose in our daily activities, trusting in His perfect timing.

As a community, let us reflect on how we use our time. Are we investing it in things that matter? Are we nurturing relationships, supporting one another, and contributing to the growth of our children? Time is a precious gift from God, meant to be used for His glory and our good.

Consider the words of Billy Graham: “The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.” How we use our time can shape the legacy we leave behind.

Let us be intentional about our time, prioritising what truly matters. Engage with your children, support our school staff and build a strong, faith-filled community. Together, we can make a lasting impact, one moment at a time.

Shalom
