It has been a big term with many great things on the NCTTC calendar.
This term we have had a number of staff complete their Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. Our VET Community Services class have assisted with Meals on Wheels on multiple occasions & the VET Building & Construction students completed their White Card (Construction Induction) Training. In May, our VET Sport & Recreation class travelled to Boort to assist with the Calder Winter Sports, students undertaking VET Allied Health, Building & Construction, Community Services, Cookery & Sport & Recreation completed First Aid certificates & CPR refreshers, & the VET Agriculture class ventured to Teys Feedlot for an excursion. Recently, over 140 students joined us to participate in our VET Taster Day. Recently, we welcomed back Year 9s from Boort & Donald who spent Term 2 at Leadership Camp. This week our VET Cookery class will end the term with an excursion to a number of hospitality businesses in town, to get an insight into their front & back of house processes. Aside from that, we have hosted many visits from RTOs & have juggled the programs of 7 other schools.
I would like to thank our Year 9 & VET students for their great participation & conduct, as well as our staff for their many contributions. Enjoy the break!
On Monday night, Abby Mulquiny & I had the pleasure of attending the NCLLENs ‘Exploring vocational pathways to success’ AGM & forum. The audience were treated to a fantastic panel of young presenters, who provided insights into their vocational journeys. It was very affirming to note that three of the guests had connections to the NCTTC.
Ex-Charlton College student, Darby Fitzpatrick is a well-known face for us. In 2020, Darby completed work experience at Hendy’s Transport & in 2021 he commenced a school-based apprenticeship (SBAT). After completing Year 12, Darby went on to a full-time Diesel Mechanic apprenticeship with Hendy’s & is now in his 3rd year. Darby made special mention of the support received from Mary-Ann Sait & we agree that she is pivotal to the success of many of our students!
Lilly Hocking literally oozed enthusiasm as she spoke about her vocational journey. Lilly completed work experience with a stock agent in Year 10 & in the Elders Wool Room in Year 11. She has commenced an SBAT with Mansbridge Pompapiel Company, which will see her complete a Certificate III in Agriculture. Lilly said school wasn’t really ‘her thing’ but her SBAT is a great balance between her studies at East Loddon P-12 College & farm days, where she works with cattle, sheep & assists with cropping.
In 2023, Braedon Niven completed Year 12 at Boort District School & is now undertaking a traineeship at the Wycheproof Early Learning Centre. In Year 10 & 11, Braedon completed his Certificate II & III in Community Services at the NCTTC. In Year 12, he returned for another year, completing the first year of Certificate III in Allied Health. It was always evident that Braedon would enter a career that involved working with, and supporting, people!
Lastly, our very own member of staff, Tahlijia Sheahan shared her impressive vocational journey. Tahlijia completed her Certificate II in Animal Studies while in Year 11 & 12 & was conflicted about whether to head down an animal-related path or health path, post-school. After receiving university offers for Occupational Therapy & Zoology, Tahlijia opted for a gap year. Many different jobs & experiences later, Tahlijia has completed Certificate III in Business, Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety & Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. We are now very fortunate to have Tahlijia as part of our NCTTC team, in the VET Agriculture program. Every other day of the week, she is the Compliance Officer for Teys Feedlot! Tahlijia’s advice was give everything a go because you never know if you never try!
The evening was truly inspiring & highlighted the benefits & value of vocational education, as well as the importance of organisations such as the NCLLEN.
