Digital Technology at Glen Eira College
Technology is an essential part of everyday life, and at Glen Eira College, we ensure our students are well-equipped with the skills they need for the future. Our Information Technology curriculum spans various areas, providing students with hands-on experience and practical knowledge.
In Year 7, students are currently using Scratch to create engaging and interactive games. This course introduces them to the basics of programming, fostering creativity, logical thinking, and critical reasoning. Check out some sample work done by students below!
Year 10 students are diving into the world of databases, learning to write SQL queries. This course helps them understand data management and manipulation, which are crucial skills in today's data-driven world.
Year 11 students are advancing their programming skills by learning Python. Throughout these weeks, they have created some interesting games and applications, showcasing their growing understanding of content knowledge and skills. In addition to technical skills, they are also learning project management. They tackle projects that involve planning, designing, and developing software solutions, which helps them develop essential skills such as time management, teamwork, and effective communication. Below are some sample projects created by students Hunter B (Number Guessing Game), Anirudh M (BMI calculator), Daniel M (Hogwarts sorting hat).
Stay Tuned
We are incredibly proud of our students' achievements and look forward to seeing their continued growth and success. Be sure to check out our Wednesday afterschool robotics club, where students can design, build, and program robots, and our Thursday lunchtime coding club. Mr Ebert, Mr Osi and Ms Sun will be there to help with collaborative projects.
