Dear Parents and Carers,

End of the Term

As we conclude Term 2, marking the end of Semester 1, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we've embarked on together so far this year. We've experienced continued learning, growth, and resilience. This has been a busy term with reporting, assessments, and meet-the-teacher events. I am immensely proud of the dedication and hard work demonstrated by every member of the St James school community. A special thank you to the outstanding staff at St James and to the students who have made us all proud!

A reminder that Term 2 ends at 3.30pm on Friday 28th June and Term 3 commences on Monday 15th July.

Reporting / Meet the Teacher

With Semester One, almost complete, you will receive a formal written report of your child’s achievements for the first part of the year.  The reports will be supported with parent teacher interviews scheduled for next Monday 24th June from 1.30pm and Tuesday 25th from 4.00pm. Students will finish at 1.00pm on Monday 24th June to allow teachers to facilitate these meetings.

School reports will be available via the nForma Parent Portal late Friday 21st June.  An email will be sent to all families when the reports have been published and ready to view.

Accessing the nForma Reports - Semester 1 Reports

We will be using the nForma Parent Portal to electronically share your child/ren’s academic report/s with you.  Prior to the reports being published on the Parent Portal, all parents will receive an email explaining how to access and set up your password. If you created a password at the end of last year, this will be reset 24 - 48 hours prior to Semester 1, 2024 reports being published.  2024 Parent Portal passwords will be reset  later this evening (Thursday 20th June), once reset, you will receive a Create Access email from no-reply@nforma.com.au (so please check your spam if you do not receive it).  Following the prompts on the email will guide you in creating access and setting up your login details, thus enabling access to all academic reports for your child which are currently on Nforma.  Important to note, that once your child leaves St James, his/her academic reports will be archived and you will no longer have direct access via the nForma Parent portal.  Therefore nForma advises all parents/carers to download a copy of all academic reports via the portal and print them off for future reference.  The school will always have access to all archived reports.

Maths Reporting

This semester, your child has been marked against the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0 for Mathematics. As this is the first time your child has been marked against this new curriculum, there will be no previous achievement level recorded. Students will now receive a single aggregate score for Maths in their school reports, rather than the three separate marks previously available in previous reports.

In order for the Semester 1 reports to be shared digitally, it is imperative that the school have your up to date contact details, in particular your email addresses.  If you have recently updated or changed your email address, can you please update your details on Operoo and inform Iris at info@stjamesbrighton.catholic.edu.au

A confirmation email will be shared on Monday by the school to inform you when the School Reports have been published and can be viewed.

If there are any queries, please do not hesitate in contacting the school.

Soccer Goals

A heartfelt thank you to the St James Parents Association for their incredible fundraising efforts for our new soccer goals. Your dedication and hard work have made a significant impact on our school community. These new soccer goals will provide our students with enhanced opportunities for physical activity and teamwork. We truly appreciate your support and generosity. Thank you for helping to make St. James an even better place for our students!

CEO Vinnies sleepout

Tonight I will brave the cold and participate in my second Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your ongoing support of me participating in this initiative to continue to raise awareness about homelessness.

I will be posting live from the event.

School ‘Fundraiser Beanies

At the beginning of the school term the SRC (Student Representative Council) members brainstormed a list of actions to assist with fundraising, with proceeds going towards the Vinnies CEO sleepout.  One of the student-led initiatives was the sausage sizzle that took place last week.  Another idea was to create a school beanie.  School beanies have been designed and are now available to order online.  The beanies are now available in the school office.

Students are allowed to wear these beanies to and from school and when outside. They can also be worn by anyone in our school community, they are not just for the students.

We look forward to staying a bit warmer outside as the weather becomes cooler.

Drop Off / Pick Up Zones

Our drop off and pick up areas will remain in place. St James and Osbourne Close will be kiss and go areas for drop off and a quick pick up at school dismissal. However, we now ask that you park within the bays allocated in St James Close and supervise your children entering the school grounds.  Please be aware that this parking is a 2min parking zone. There is ample parking on North Road if you wish to enter the school at drop off and pick up times. Please be mindful of our neighbours when parking.

I am aware that a number of families have expressed safety concerns with the current situation in dropping off and picking up in St James Close.  Some of you may be aware that parents have received parking infringements for dropping off students in St James Close and not adhering to the signage.  I am well aware of these concerns and can assure you that I am actively working on a solution.

School Security

If you are dropping off or picking up students between 9.00am and 3.30pm, please ensure that this is done so via St James Close and the front office.  For security reasons we would like to ensure anyone entering or leaving the school during class time does so via the main entrance.  The doors are locked once the school day commences.  Please ring the doorbell and a member of staff will let you in.  Thank you!

School Marketing 2024 / 2025

If you're an existing family at St James or you know of a family considering enrolling their child at our school, please remind them to submit their application using the online enrolment application available on the school website.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school directly on ph 03 9596-4766 or via email: info@stjamesbrighton.catholic.edu.au

Thanks in advance!
