Principal's Message
Welcome to Term Three, Semester Two
Welcome back to term 3. It is fantastic to see all of the students return keen to get on with the learning. This term we look forward to working towards achieving the goals set last semester and working together. We continue on the journey of providing the students with wonderful learning opportunities at St Anthony's.
Celebrating Grandparents and Special Friends
Last Friday we had the joy of celebrating Mass, followed by a heartfelt tribute at the Possum Playground and a delightful morning tea at the school. The performances from famous musicals, beautifully put together by our creative arts teacher Mrs. McInness, were outstanding. I’m certain our grandparents were wowed by the incredible talent of our students.
We are truly blessed by the presence of our grandparents in our lives. They watch over us, guide our families, and help us in countless ways. Thank you, grandparents, for all your love and support! We express our heartfelt gratitude to Father Laurie for leading us in the celebration of the feast of St Anne and St Joachim.
A special thank you to Mrs McInness, the staff, and all the parents for your hard work in making this event so special. Your dedication and effort are greatly appreciated.
A BIG thank you to the parent committee and the helpers from Year 3 and 4 who set up the morning tea—it was absolutely wonderful!
Archbishops Charter
As a Catholic School, we play a unique role in the evangelising and educational mission of the Church in the wider community. To support this mission, we strive to follow the Archbishop’s Charter. Catholic schools are called to reflect on and respond to the Charter as a means of revitalising their understanding of their mission as a Catholic School.
Last year, St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School Clovelly, engaged in a strategic renewal process during a Sydney Catholic Schools’ Inquiry and Review. During this Review Process, St Anthony’s reflected on and described how we have responded to the Archbishop’s Charter over the previous five years, and how we intend to do so in the next cycle. This process involved consultation with Sydney Catholic School staff and St Anthony’s staff, students and parents who all reflected on St Anthony’s learning journey and carefully considered our future directions. Our achievements and evidence of impact, as well as goals for the next four years have been carefully documented.
Following the Inquiry and Review Process, I am pleased to announce that the Archbishop would like to formally recognise and affirm the school’s response to the Charter.
Mrs Julie Thompson from the SCS Mission and Identity Team as the K-12 Religious Education Officer, joined us at the Feast of St Anne and St Joachim to present the newly updated Charter to our school. This certificate will be placed in our school office in recognition of the school’s achievements.
Botany Randwick Sydney Catholic Schools Inter-School Debating 2024
In Term Three students in Stage 3 will be participating in an Inter School Debating Competition. Debating is a fun, exciting and challenging co curricular activity, which involves 12 Catholic schools in the Botany Randwick Region.
Debating is about developing a team’s argument at the same time as rebutting the opposition’s case line (or main argument). It consists of three essential components: Manner, Matter and Method. Each speaker in the team is adjudicated on each of these three M’s - Manner, Matter and Method.
Students will be practicing debating in the classroom over the next few weeks. Encouraging critical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork, debating provides valuable skills that extend beyond the competition itself.
2024 Staff Development Days (Pupil Free Days)
Each year, Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) provides time for Staff Development Days (SDD) so that staff can work collaboratively and continue to provide high-quality learning opportunities for your child. With the introduction of the new English and Mathematics Syllabus’ in 2023 (K-2) and 2024 (Yr 3-6), as well as the implementation of other new syllabi within the next two years.
We have 2 remaining Staff Development Days this year:
Friday 27 September (Term 3, Week 10) and
Thursday 19 December (Term 4, Week 10)
SCECS will be offering care on these days.
Week 1 Assembly - Congratulations to the award recipients!
