Courageous Learners Are Risk-Takers

The IB Learner Profile aims to develop students who are risk-takers. Students who are risk-takers are able to approach unfamiliar situations with courage and forethought. They have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas and strategies. Risk-takers are brave and articulate in defending their beliefs.

In the Primary Years, we encourage our students to approach change and uncertainty with forethought and determination. From the early years onwards, our students show courage when working independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. They develop a willingness to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new experiences, and learn from their mistakes. These attributes enable our students to transition well to new and changing environments.

Courage and Risk - Taking in the MYP

In the MYP, interdisciplinary units (IDUs) serve as fertile ground for nurturing courage and risk-taking among students. This year, Year 9 students had the chance to explore aviation studies, integrating science, design, and humanities to examine the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in aviation. This approach encourages students to grapple with the complexities of AI technology and its implications, fostering courage as they propose innovative solutions. Similarly, Year 7 students will engage in a business and civics unit, exploring their rights and responsibilities as Australian citizens and the importance of informed decision-making as consumers.

By integrating concepts from various disciplines, students cultivate the courage to critically evaluate information and advocate for positive change. Whether exploring emerging technologies, examining global challenges, or investigating social issues, students develop the resilience to thrive in an ever-changing world. Through interdisciplinary learning, the MYP equips students with the skills and mindset to shape a brighter future for themselves and society.
