Developing Courage and Resiliency in Young People
Quite often, children find themselves in situations where they may feel a sense of uncomfortableness or adversity. As parents/guardians and teachers, our natural instinct may be to immediately step in to solve issues for our children as they arise. Whilst in some cases this may be necessary, we need to understand that there are many opportunities for children to develop courage and resiliency through these lived experiences, particularly in the way they respond, and let us not forget that these are skills which need to be taught!
It is courageous, for example, to try and solve friendship issues through discussions and effective communication when things turn sour. It is also courageous to call out poor behaviours when these are witnessed even when there may be a feeling of fear and uncertainty of the aftermath. Resiliency, in turn can be developed when children are taught various problem-solving techniques which can be applied to situations which enables them to successfully ‘bounce back’.
As parents and educators, there are many ways to help foster and develop courage and resiliency in children, particularly when there are many emotions encompassing the perception of what it is to be courageous. In this interesting article, you will find useful tips of helping your young person develop their abilities to become courageous and resilient individuals.

Prep Trip to MoPA
The Mambourin Preps recently visited MoPA the Museum of Play and Art, for their first excursion. Aligned with their ‘Sharing the Planet’ Unit of Inquiry, the trip aimed to explore the significance of play. The students engaged in many interactive experiences demonstrating their expertise in play and creativity. They later reflected on their favourite moments through a retelling writing piece, fostering self-expression. This excursion not only provided a day of fun but also deepened the students' understanding of play and its role in connecting with themselves and others. It was a memorable journey of exploration bringing the Unit of Inquiry to life in a hands-on and immersive way.
