Book Week Events

Dress Up Day and Parade

Our annual Book Week dress up day will be held on Monday 19th August. On this day, students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite fictional character. A special Book Week assembly will be held in the Gym from 9-9:30am, where students can show off their costumes.

This year, our Book Week Dress Up event will raise money for The World Literacy Foundation, an Australian registered charity which strives to assist every child, regardless of geographic location, with the opportunity to acquire literacy skills and books to reach their full potential.

In Uganda, 95% of children in rural areas don’t own a single book and 60% of primary schools do not have school libraries. The money we raise will be donated to build 5 libraries in Ugandan primary schools with access to over 2,500 books. Through our collective effort, we can make a difference and transform the lives of these children forever.

Students who come to school dressed up are asked to bring a gold coin donation for The World Literacy Foundation. Learn more at https://worldliteracyfoundation.org/book-week-2024.

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be returning to Mackellar Primary School during Book Week. The Book Fair is a fantastic opportunity to purchase books for your child to enjoy in a variety of genres, including fantasy, classics, award-winners, humour, non-fiction and mystery.

Books will be available to purchase for all primary-school ages, with prices starting at $5. There will also be other small items, such as bookmarks and stationery, available to buy.

The Book Fair will be open before and after school in the Grade 5/6 Building from Monday 19th-Friday 23rd August.
