2024 School Council

Dear Parents,

At our recent school council meeting, the following items were discussed or presented by our relevant sub-committees.

Buildings and Grounds

The Buildings and Grounds sub-committee are undertaking two major projects this year to continue the upgrade and beautification of our school. The first is to seek funding to refurbish the toilets near the grade prep and one classrooms, and the toilets near the gym and canteen. If successful in our application for funding, it is hoped these works may commence late this year, or early next. Whilst it is a long process, the benefits will be quite significant for our students as these toilets have not been upgraded since the school opened in 1991.

Whilst we wait for funding announcements for our first major project, we are actively working on our second. Over the course of this year we aim to irrigate the surrounds of our oval which can become quite dry and barren over the warmer months. Once irrigated, we aim to plant as many trees as that area of land can accommodate successfully, and to work with our Junior School Council to establish a child friendly environment towards the back of the oval which at present is not utilised at all.

Education and Community

The Education and Community sub-committee are currently exploring further ways to encourage greater parental involvement at school. This comes off the back of some very successful events in semester one including our Paper Planes Fathering Project evening and our Education Week Expo, as well as more everyday occurrences such as having more parent helpers in classrooms.

This committee is also investigating local secondary schools and the languages they teach to ensure we provide our students a pathway through to secondary school of a world language that is relevant to this community. Whilst we have no plans to move away from Italian at this stage, it is incumbent upon the committee to ensure our language program is vibrant, relevant and meets community expectations.

Finance and Governance

This committee is divided into two parts. The finance side of this committee ensures school expenditure is done so in accordance with ATO and Departmental protocols and procedures, and that all budget items align with our Annual Implementation Plan.

The governance side of this sub-committee works through a schedule of policy review, update and ratification.  Once updated, these policies are placed on our school's website for parents to access as required. At the last meeting the following policies were updated:

Anaphylaxis PolicyAsthma Policy
Health Care Needs Policy                    First Aid Policy
Enrolment PolicyAdministration of Medication Policy
Duty of Care PolicyComplaints Policy
Visitors PolicyVolunteers Policy
Mobile Phones Policy

In addition to the work of these sub-committees, our School Wide Positive Behaviours (SWPBS) team and our Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) leader reported on their progress to date, and the achievements they have made in these areas.

Regards,
