Deputy Principal's Message
Welcome to Term 3. It was wonderful to welcome the students back to Ben Venue after the break. We look forward to another busy term with many activities and excursions planned over the next 10 weeks.
Student Representative Council
Our 2024 Student Representative Council have been meeting in the Yarning Circle to share and discuss student ideas, including potential fundraising initiatives and new ways to enhance the school environment and their school experience. We look forward to sharing these initiatives with the school community over the remainder of the year.
Check-in Assessments for Year 3-6 students
The Check-in assessment is an annual online assessment for students in Years 3 to 9 in NSW Public Schools. All students complete a reading test and a numeracy test. Year 6 students also complete a writing task.
Each test is designed to take up to 60 minutes, however, there is no time limit. Students are allowed extra time if required.
The Check-in assessment supports the identification of students’ performance in literacy and numeracy and informs next steps in teaching and learning. They support teachers in analysing strengths and determining areas of focus.
They are designed to:
- provide an overview of student learning across a year level
- identify student misconceptions
- support planning and programming
- complement other in-school assessments and teacher observations.
This year, all Year 3-6 students will complete the assessments during Weeks 6 to 9 (26 August to 20 September 2024).
