Berry Street training:
Our staff engaged in a day of training on Tuesday, diving deeper into learning about establishing deep connections and relationships with each child and their families.
Some of the key takeaways have been:
- Connection not correction.
- How positive attachment's in a child's early life affect their pathways and outcomes.
- The importance of getting to know each child deeply and getting to know each child for who they are.
- Behaviour is our best attempt at meeting our needs. ( Our kinder embeds this pedagogy by acknowledging ' All behaviour is a form of communication'.)
- The place that we as teachers have in creating safe and secure environments. 'We are the weather in the classroom'.
Three-Year-Olds
It has been a wonderfully productive week for the three-year-old kinder group. The condensation in the yard during the morning sessions has led to some great hands-on investigation and questions about how condensation forms. Indoors, we have been working on hand eye coordination and fine motor skills at the art table and with threading beads. Some impressive work has been happening in these areas!
Four-Year-Olds
Our four-year-old children had fun making fruit pizza with Cristina during their language program this week as they continued to learn about fruit and colour in Mandarin.
There was a lot of incidental learning that occurred also, we had a great discussion around volcanoes during group time and are planning to make one next week. We are planning the experiment together and the children are helping come up with the materials list and how we can make this experiment work.
The children loved the new dramatic play corner with an increasing level of communication and positive interactions occurring with one another and Mardi worked with a large group of children to extend their interests- creating a camping and fishing area outside!
