Principal's Message

Term 2 Week 9

Our Kinder is Exceeding

Our Assessment and Ratings process was completed on the 22nd of May. This process consisted of submitting requested regulatory and compliance documents, engaging in a leadership discussion with Rebecca the Authorised Officer and then a half-day assessment, where she came in, observed our program, held discussions with staff and assessed the service around the seven National Quality Standards.

Her feedback was incredibly positive and she ended up staying longer to gather evidence and examples to share with her colleagues.

Congratulations to our amazing Kindergarten team.

Wellbeing Fundraiser - Tom Mckinnon

On the 28th of June the Wellbeing team will be running a ‘Toyday’ fundraiser. On the day, students can wear their pyjamas and bring a stuffed toy for a gold coin donation, additionally there will be a donation tub in the foyer for spare fidget tools. This and the money will be going towards new fidget and wellbeing tools for all of the classes.

Street Library

It is great to see a continued interest and enthusiasm for the Street Library with many families still accessing the books on offer. Because this is a wonderful community connection, we are asking if any parents/family members are interested in helping to coordinate the running of the Library.

This would commence over the school holidays and into next term. It would be good to have a small team involved so the responsibility can be shared. If you are willing to assist can you please see Mr. Shaw or Reception

Head Lice Rechecks

Thank you to Mais Sukkar’s band of helpers - George Ma, Alicia Seymour and Namitha Ravishankar for completing the headlice rechecks in record time.

Holiday Building Works

  • Over the next few Saturdays the builders will be working, from 7.00 to 3.pm on the new building, to catch up lost days.
  • New boundary fencing will be installed over the holiday period to replace the current fencing. It is important to note that this fencing will improve the safety for our students and make vehicle access easier to manage. It will also mean that gates can be closed during school hours and support the registration of visitors and contractors onsite. This will also mean that students will need to be signed in by parents/carers if arriving after 9.00am.
  • Fencing to be installed down Eugenia Street
  • Chain link across the oval for student safety and to stop balls going onto the street.
  • Automatic Gates for access to the oval and a pedestrian gate
  • Complete Staff Car Park fencing and new fencing along Mt Pleasant Road
  • New fencing installed at 2.1 metres high as per The Departments security advisor.
  • Automatic gates to meet OH&S requirements for vehicle access..

I thank School Council and Administration Staff for all their work in coordinating and arriving at an appropriate solution.

Curriculum Day - Berry Street-Day 2 Training

Staff were very excited to participate in Day Two of the Berry Street Education Model. The session was inspiring, relevant and purposeful to our current climate and a fantastic opportunity to weave teaching and learning and wellbeing through our daily lessons.

Day 2 was able to focus us together on RELATIONSHIPS with the following highlight areas:

  • Attachment & Attunement
  • Unconditional Positive Regards
  • Active Constructive Responding
  • Empathy and Zen Mind
  • Process, Praise and Positive Narration
  • Golden Statements
  • Redefining Power
  • Staff Wellbeing

Teachers learnt about and discussed these points and how they related to a class and personal level. There were certainly an array of strategies and approaches for teachers to take away and trial in the coming weeks. We look forward to a further two days training in 2024.
