Library Action Team - Term 2 Recap

The Library Action Team has been spending their time working on the reading events that have happened throughout the term. We started off the term with the National Simultaneous Storytime event. We had every student in the school read Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker, which is a story about connection, hope and friendship. We aimed for people to dress up in blue clothing and bring blue items and assortments. We used these assortments to create a beautiful collage in the Library. We then had the Premiers’ Reading Challenge, where students were given the opportunity to read as many books as they could over the course of the set challenge dates. It was wonderful seeing so many students participate and hundreds of books read over the school. So far, these children have won our special awards given to the students who have read the most books in the school.

   Week 6 -

Rishi from PCU who read 25 books.

Casper from PCU who read 11 books.

    Week 7 -

Oscar from 5M who read 15 books.

Felix from 4J who read 15 books.

    Week 8 -

Isla W from 2L who read 12 books.

Lina from 6M who read 17 books.

    Week 9 -

Isabella from 6M who read 24 books.

Evelyn from 6A who read 31 books.

       Week 10 -

Max K from 2L who read 21 books.

Hayley from 4D who read 32 books.

On Friday, we will announce the final award for this term, to the student who has read the most books in the school so far this year. We have been so happy to see so many students participating and reading so many books. Remember that the Premiers Reading Challenge ends on September 6th, so you still have plenty of time to keep reading and win awards!

The Library action team has had a blast working with Lizzy and seeing so many happy readers. We would like to wish you a happy school holiday, where your free time might just be reading a good book. Happy Reading!

Reminder - Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Alphington Primary School is excited to be participating.

Every student at APS has their own username and password. The classroom teachers have received these and will share them with the students so they can begin.

The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 6 September 2024.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
